260靈修 3月13日:詩篇第78章

追述 神的作為訓誨後世

亞薩的訓誨詩。

56 但他們仍然試探和悖逆至高的 神,不謹守他的法則。

57 他們背信不忠,像他們的列祖一樣;他們改變了,如同不可靠的弓。

58 因他們的邱壇,惹起他的怒氣,因他們雕刻的偶像,激起他的憤恨。

59  神聽見就大怒,完全棄絕了以色列。

60 他丟棄了在示羅的居所,就是他在世人中間居住的帳棚。

61 他又把象徵他權能的約櫃交給人擄去,把他的榮美交在敵人的手裡,

62 並且把自己的子民交給刀劍,向自己的產業大發烈怒。

63 他們的青年被火吞滅,他們的少女也聽不見結婚的喜歌。

64 他們的祭司倒在刀下,他們的寡婦卻不能哀哭。

65 那時主好像從睡眠中醒過來,如同勇士酒後清醒一樣。

66 他擊退了他的敵人,使他們永遠蒙羞受辱。

67 他棄絕約瑟的帳棚,不揀選以法蓮支派,

68 卻揀選了猶大支派,他所愛的錫安山。

69 他建造了自己的聖所好像在高天之上,又像他所建立永存的大地。

70 他揀選了自己的僕人大衛,把他從羊圈中召出來;

71 他領他出來,使他不再跟著那些母羊,卻要牧養他的子民雅各,和他的產業以色列。

72 於是大衛以正直的心牧養他們,靈巧地引導他們。

 

默想:

  • 這首長詩教導目前及未來的世代子孫,要從過去的歷史經歷中學習,並強調神的恩典。整首詩追述以色列人的歷史,在曠野中,以色列民因違背了他們與神所立的約,而受到懲罰。 以後的世代不再紀念神為他們所行的神蹟奇事,又多次的違約,神仍然憐憫他們。雖然神在率領他們出埃及,以及在佔領迦南地的事上,諸般地以愛待以色列民,他們仍然悖逆神,因此終究受到神公義的審判。
  • 雖然如此,在上面這段經文中,神匠心地選擇大衛來牧養祂的百姓。這首詩的教訓非常清楚,以色列民因著大衛,得到重新開始的機會。他們必須記取歷史經歷,效仿大衛對神的忠心,這樣才可能避免將來的災禍。
  • 藉著經常追憶哪些神過去在你生命中所作的事情,能夠幫助你面對目前仍然有的試探、遺忘、懷疑?

260 Devotional, Mar. 12 Psalms Ch. 77

In the Day of Trouble I Seek the Lord

To the choirmaster: according to Jeduthun. A Psalm of Asaph.

77 I cry aloud to God,
aloud to God, and he will hear me.
In the day of my trouble I seek the Lord;
in the night my hand is stretched out without wearying;
my soul refuses to be comforted.
When I remember God, I moan;
when I meditate, my spirit faints. Selah

You hold my eyelids open;
I am so troubled that I cannot speak.
I consider the days of old,
the years long ago.
I said, “Let me remember my song in the night;
let me meditate in my heart.”
Then my spirit made a diligent search:
“Will the Lord spurn forever,
and never again be favorable?
Has his steadfast love forever ceased?
Are his promises at an end for all time?
Has God forgotten to be gracious?
Has he in anger shut up his compassion?”Selah

10 Then I said, “I will appeal to this,
to the years of the right hand of the Most High.”

11 I will remember the deeds of the Lord;
yes, I will remember your wonders of old.
12 I will ponder all your work,
and meditate on your mighty deeds.
13 Your way, O God, is holy.
What god is great like our God?

your path through the great waters;
yet your footprints were unseen.

by the hand of Moses and Aaron.

 

Reflection

  • The psalmist spoke of fervent, anguished, and continual prayer which brought him no comfort at all. Sometimes prayer, the means by which we cast our burdens on God, actually increases the pressure we feel. When an answer to prayer is delayed we begin to wonder if God will ever show us favour again.
  • The psalmist then recalls “the deeds of the Lord”, His “wonders of old” and “mighty deeds”.  The key here is not simply that God is all-powerful, but that God has in the past used His power to redeem His people.
  • It is the same for us. When distress drives us to doubt, we are to recall what God has done for us in Christ. Jesus’ resurrection demonstrates God’s power. But it is the fact that the Son of God died and was raised for us, that seals our confidence and hope.
  • Name three things you’re grateful for. Reflect on your response. (How long did it take you to think of things you’re grateful for? Did they come to mind quickly or slowly? How conscious are you of God’s good gifts?)

在患難中憶念 神的作為

亞薩的詩,交給詩班長,照耶杜頓的做法。

77 我要向 神發聲呼求,我向 神發聲,他必留心聽我。

我在患難的日子尋求主,我整夜舉手禱告,總不倦怠,我的心不肯受安慰。

我想到 神,就哀怨唉哼;我沉思默想,心靈就煩亂。(細拉)

你使我不能合眼,我煩躁不安,連話也說不出來。

我回想過往的日子,上古的年代;

我想起我夜間的詩歌。我的心沉思默想,我的靈仔細探究。

主要永遠丟棄我,不再施恩嗎?

他的慈愛永遠消失,他的應許永久廢去嗎?

 神忘記施恩,因忿怒而止住他的憐憫嗎?(細拉)

10 因此我說:“這是我的憂傷:至高者的右手已經改變了!”

11 我要述說耶和華的作為,我要記念你古時所行的奇事。

12 我要默想你一切所行的,思想你的作為。

默想:

  • 詩人雖然不住迫切地禱告,卻得不到絲毫的幫助與安慰。有時候當我們禱告,將重擔卸給神的時候,我們反而感到更多的壓力。當禱告遲遲不得答覆時,我們就會懷疑神是否不再向我們施恩典了。
  • 但是詩人隨著就開始回憶“耶和華的作為”,以及“你古時所行的奇事”。此處的關鍵不但在於神是全能的,更是在於神在從前曾經以祂的大能,施行拯救,賜恩典給祂的子民。
  • 今天我們也是一樣的,當我們沮喪、失望,而致懷疑神的時候,我們要回想神在基督裡為我們所做的一切。耶穌的復活顯示了神的大能;但是,神的兒子親自為我們死,且為我們復活,給了我們信心與盼望。
  • 回想三件你感恩的事情。思想一下你的回應。你花了多少時間才能想到這三件感恩的事情?是立刻想到了嗎?還是用了很長的時間?你是否經常意識到神所賜的美好禮物?

《預苦期》(3月5日至4月17日)

「預苦期」(Lent)是指復活節前的四十日,所以此節期又稱為「四旬期」,即 40 日的意思。至於四十日的典故是取自耶穌於曠野四十日,受魔鬼的試探,沒有吃喝,之後才開始傳道的事工。在西方的教會傳統上,守齋、禁食是屬於一種靈性上的操練,目的是反省、律己,以跟隨上主的教導;因此,預苦期亦可以稱為「大齋期」。不過,一般來說,由於「主日」是慶賀耶穌基督復活的日子,基本上是不會守齋的,所以預苦期這四十日並不包括內中的六個主日。

每年的預苦期均開始於星期三的「聖灰日」(Ash Wednesday),信徒會於當天額上塗灰,作為懺悔罪行的象徵。這做法其實是源自舊約時代猶太人的信仰習俗,就是當在憂傷、懺悔的時候就會塗抹灰塵,以表示自己的卑微和無助,痛悔自己干犯了上帝而遭遇慘況。「聖灰日」的節期顏色為紫色,表徵信徒為罪憂傷,以求主赦免。

至於預苦期的第一個主日(即聖灰日之後的主日)雖然並沒有特定的稱謂,但是通常都會以耶穌於曠野四十日受魔鬼的試探作為崇拜的主題,所以坊間會簡稱這日為「耶穌受試探日」。整個預苦期有五個主日,同樣以紫色為節期的主要顏色,以記念救主耶穌基督為世人的罪而踏上苦路。

預苦期的第六個主日是「棕枝主日」(Palm Sunday),即是預苦期的最後一個主日,也是復活節前的一個主日。換言之,「棕枝主日」替「聖週」揭開了序幕,為要記念耶穌基督騎驢駒,以和平君王的身份,榮耀地進入聖城耶路撒冷。棕枝主日的顏色:如果是以慶賀耶穌基督就是上帝所應許那位彌賽亞的君王為主題的崇拜,就會採用紅色為主;如果議定為沉思以迎接受難的基督,則仍然會採用紫色。節日的特別用語為「和散那」(Hosanna)。節日的實物象徵為棕樹枝,代表著勝利和凱旋的記號。

在聖週的週四傍晚有「立聖餐日」(Maundy Thursday),耶穌設立聖餐,為要施恩予信徒,讓世世代代的信徒都可以領受祂的餅和杯,所以為表慶祝,這節日會使用紅色為主。「受難日」(Good Friday)是記念救主耶穌基督為世人的罪,被釘死於十字架上。因此,顏色以黑色為主,十字架會用黑布遮蓋,或掛上荊棘的冠冕。

在預苦期裡,就讓我們藉著靈修、默想…等屬靈操練,記念耶穌基督為著我們每一個罪人的緣故,昂然進入受難之中,以致於死,且死在十字架上,思想祂十字架上的大恩大愛。

王洪淵傳道教牧分享: 《背主的十字架》

馬太福音27:32-33

27:32他們出來的時候、遇見一個古利奈人、名叫西門、就勉強他同去、好背著耶穌的十字架。27:33到了一個地方、名叫各各他、意思就是髑髏地。

 

當主耶穌背著十字架走向髑髏地的時候,他已經筋疲力盡。他在受苦周中那麽繁忙,潔凈聖殿,教導門徒和安排後事。最後的晚餐之後,在客西馬尼園裏流血的祈禱。然後被逮捕、被審判、被鞭打。走在耶路撒冷高低不平的石頭路上,身上背著沈重的十字架,不知多少次摔倒,所以稱為苦路。當我在蒙特利爾的聖約瑟大教堂,參觀這苦路14站的時候,我被震撼了。

這時候,遇見一個古利奈人、名叫西門、就勉強他同去、好背著耶穌的十字架。這個古利奈人可能是黑人,可能身材魁梧,被羅馬人強迫替耶穌背著十字架走向各各他。當他背著十字架的的時候,西門很可能不高興,一定不情願。但是,當他後來知道他是替耶穌基督背十字架的時候,他才明白,這是他一生之中做过的最有意義的一件事。他替耶穌背十字架,這十字架是全人類的十字架,全人類的罪在這十字架上得到解決。西門所背的十字架上,也有自己的罪。

上帝沒有虧待為耶穌背十字架的人西門,他的兩個兒子亞歷山大和魯孚成了後來教會的名人(馬可福音15:21)。他的妻子和兒子除了使徒保羅的朋友和親人(羅馬書16:13)。主尊重所有服事上帝的人,就是給最不起眼的弟兄姊妹一杯涼水,主都會紀念。

我們這些基督的門徒,主曾對我們說:“若有人要跟從我,就當捨己,天天背起他的十字架來跟從我。”(路加福音9:23)。我們很多時候,不情願背主的十字架,不情願背自己的十字架。因為害怕周圍人的眼光,因為擔心十字架會損害自身的利益。以為沒有十字架,我們就自由了。豈不知,我們的自由只有犯罪的自由和死亡的自由。當我們甘心情願背負主的十字架的時候,或許我們會遇到鄙視的目光,或許有現實利益的損失,但我們在主裏的自由,是用多少金錢和 贊譽都買不來的。同時,我們在天上的賞賜是大的(馬太福音5:10-12)。

主耶穌應許我們說:“11:28凡勞苦擔重擔的人、可以到我這裏來、我就使你們得安息。11:29我心裏柔和謙卑、你們當負我的軛、學我的樣式、這樣、你們心裏就必得享安息。11:30因為我的軛是容易的、我的擔子是輕省的。”(馬太福音11:28-30)

弟兄姊妹們,讓我們歡喜快樂地背起自己的十字架,緊緊跟隨主的腳蹤,走向世界的各各他,走向屬靈的復活之地,向著標桿直跑,為得著那永不朽壞和冠冕。

Who Can Stand Before You?

To the choirmaster: with stringed instruments. A Psalm of Asaph. A Song.

76 In Judah God is known;
his name is great in Israel.
His abode has been established in Salem,
his dwelling place in Zion.
There he broke the flashing arrows,
the shield, the sword, and the weapons of war.Selah

Glorious are you, more majestic
than the mountains full of prey.
The stouthearted were stripped of their spoil;
they sank into sleep;
all the men of war
were unable to use their hands.
At your rebuke, O God of Jacob,
both rider and horse lay stunned.

But you, you are to be feared!
Who can stand before you
when once your anger is roused?
From the heavens you uttered judgment;
the earth feared and was still,
when God arose to establish judgment,
to save all the humble of the earth. Selah

10 Surely the wrath of man shall praise you;

Reflection

  • The psalmist wrote that the Lord is to be feared by those who see His works among His own people.  And the natural response would be: Who can stand before you, a title given in ESV.
  • God was characterized by majesty, power, and righteousness expressed in His judgment of sinful men (vv4-9). Thus “the wrath of man shall” bring God praise (v10).  “For the wrath of man will end in praise of You, and whatever wrath is left You will wrap around Yourself like a belt.” (The Voice)
  • The cross of Jesus Christ bore all the “wrath of man”.  Jesus took the cup and accomplished God’s plan of salvation for us all.

神的威榮無人能敵

76 在猶大, 神是人人所認識的,在以色列,他的名被尊為大。

他的帳棚是在撒冷,他的居所是在錫安。

在那裡他折斷了弓上的火箭,拆毀了盾牌、刀劍和爭戰的兵器。(細拉)

你滿有光華和榮美,勝過獵物豐富的群山。

心裡勇敢的人都被搶掠,他們長睡不起;所有大能的勇士都無力舉手。

雅各的 神啊!因你的斥責,坐車的和騎馬的都沉睡了。

唯有你是可畏的,你的烈怒一發出,誰能在你面前站立得住呢?

8-9  神啊!你起來施行審判,要拯救地上所有困苦的人。

默想:

  • 神在百姓當中的作為,是人人認識的,且是可畏的;因此,人的自然反應就是“誰能在你面前站立得住呢?”
  • 神在審判罪人中,彰顯出祂的榮耀,華美,大能,和公義。因此“人的忿怒必使你得稱讚,人的餘怒必成為你的裝飾”(10節)。
  • 耶穌基督在十字架上擔當所有“人的忿怒”,祂接受了苦杯,成就了神拯救世人的計劃,這是神的榮耀,華美,大能和公義,最偉大真切的表現。
  • 以這首古老的詩歌,作為今天向神的頌讚。

260 Devotional, Mar. 10 Psalms Ch. 75

God Will Judge with Equity

To the choirmaster: according to Do Not Destroy. A Psalm of Asaph. A Song.

75 We give thanks to you, O God;
we give thanks, for your name is near.
We recount your wondrous deeds.

“At the set time that I appoint
I will judge with equity.
When the earth totters, and all its inhabitants,
it is I who keep steady its pillars. Selah
I say to the boastful, ‘Do not boast,’
and to the wicked, ‘Do not lift up your horn;
do not lift up your horn on high,
or speak with haughty neck.’”

For not from the east or from the west
and not from the wilderness comes lifting up,
but it is God who executes judgment,
putting down one and lifting up another.
For in the hand of the Lord there is a cup
with foaming wine, well mixed,
and he pours out from it,
and all the wicked of the earth
shall drain it down to the dregs.

But I will declare it forever;
I will sing praises to the God of Jacob.
10 All the horns of the wicked I will cut off,
but the horns of the righteous shall be lifted up.

 

Reflection

  • This thanksgiving psalm anticipates a victory in Israel when God as Judge would destroy the wicked and establish the righteous. God judges when He decides the time is right, and He judges fairly.
  • God as the Sovereign Judge, forces His enemies to drink all the wine of judgment that He has prepared for them. One may choose to act against God by doing evil, but then he/she has to accept the consequences of rebellion against God and harming His people.
  • The psalmist concluded by praising God publicly, and in song, for judging His enemies. The horns symbolize strength. Israel’s enemies would lose their strength, but God’s people would grow stronger.
  • Though we might encounter hardship from others, we have the confidence that God will judge and is near to His people.

260靈修 3月10日:詩篇第75章

神必使惡人降卑義人高升

歌一首,亞薩的詩,交給詩班長,調用“休要毀壞”。

75  神啊!我們稱謝你,我們稱謝你,因為你接近人,人都述說你奇妙的作為。

你說:“我選定了日期,我要按公正施行審判。

地和地上的居民都因懼怕而融化,我卻使大地的柱子堅立。(細拉)

我對狂傲的人說:‘不要行事狂傲’;對邪惡的人說:‘不要舉角,

不要高舉你們的角,不要挺著傲慢的頸項說話。’”

高升不是從東面來,不是從西面來,也不是曠野來,

而是由 神來決定;他使這人降卑,使那人升高。

原來耶和華的手裡有杯,裝滿了起沫和混雜各種香料的酒;

他把酒從杯裡倒出來,地上所有的惡人都必定要喝,

甚至連酒的渣滓都要喝盡。

至於我,我要永遠傳揚,我要向雅各的 神歌唱。

10 所有惡人的角,我都要砍斷,只有義人的角必被高舉。

 

默想:

  • 這是一首感恩的詩歌,期待因神——世界的君王至終要毀滅惡人,堅立義人,而以色列將獲勝利。神選定日子,按公義施行審判。
  • 這位至高的審判君將迫使惡人喝盡祂所預備的審判之酒。任何人都可以選擇行惡悖逆神,但他就必須接受悖逆神及欺壓神百姓的後果。
  • 詩人結束這首詩時,公開頌揚神。惡人的角是指他們的能力,他們將失去能力,不再行惡;但是神的百姓卻越來越剛強。
  • 因此,雖然我們可能遭遇別人欺壓的苦難,但是我們確信神將要審判世界,並且祂與我們親近,因此我們要稱謝神,述說神奇妙的作為。

Arise, O God, Defend Your Cause

A Maskil of Asaph.

74 O God, why do you cast us off forever?
Why does your anger smoke against the sheep of your pasture?
Remember your congregation, which you have purchased of old,
which you have redeemed to be the tribe of your heritage!
Remember Mount Zion, where you have dwelt.
Direct your steps to the perpetual ruins;
the enemy has destroyed everything in the sanctuary!

Your foes have roared in the midst of your meeting place;
they set up their own signs for signs.
They were like those who swing axes
in a forest of trees.
And all its carved wood
they broke down with hatchets and hammers.
They set your sanctuary on fire;
they profaned the dwelling place of your name,
bringing it down to the ground.
They said to themselves, “We will utterly subdue them”;

We do not see our signs;

the uproar of those who rise against you, which goes up continually!

 

Reflection

  • This psalm posed a question that each of us is driven to ask at times. Why is God silent? Why hasn’t He acted? Why does He seem to reject His people? The psalmist described Jerusalem’s destruction and questioned God why He allowed the enemy to mock Him as such?
  • What are we to do when we too feel crushed, puzzled, and anguished because God permits us to suffer?
  • It is at such times, we are often driven to pray and intercede. We become aware of the consequences of sin and the destructive power of evil. And know that we need God’s help otherwise we will have no hope for restoration.
  • What event in your life has caused a crisis in faith for you? How did you handle it? Is the problem resolved? How can your cell group or the church help?

 

Prayer & Journaling:

Stay with God for a little longer.  Continue to converse with God and listen to what he wants to tell me.  Then write down any thought and/or prayer in the “Spiritual Journal” book.

祈求 神記念他的子民

亞薩的訓誨詩。

74  神啊!你為甚麼永遠丟棄我們呢?為甚麼你的怒氣向你草場上的羊群好像煙冒出呢?

求你記念你在古時買贖的會眾,就是你贖回作你產業的民族;求你記念你所居住的錫安山。

求你舉步去看那些長久荒涼的地方,去看仇敵在聖所裡所行的一切惡事。

你的敵人在敬拜你的聚會中吼叫,他們豎起了自己的旗幟為記號。

他們好像那些舉起斧子,在樹林中砍伐樹木的人。

聖殿中的一切雕刻,他們都用斧子和銃子打碎了。

他們用火把你的聖所燒成焦土,他們褻瀆你名的居所。

他們心裡說:“我們要把它們完全毀滅!”他們燒毀了地上一切敬拜 神的聚會地方。

我們看不見我們的記號,也不再有先知;我們中間也沒有人知道這災禍要到幾時。

10  神啊!敵人辱罵你要到幾時呢?仇敵褻慢你的名要到永遠嗎?

默想:

  • 這篇詩篇提出一個我們都可能問的問題:神為什麼靜默?神為什麼不採取行動?祂為什麼似乎拒絕自己的子民?詩人描述耶路撒冷被毀,並質問為何神容許敵人如此侮辱祂?
  • 當神容許我們受苦時,我們覺得被壓,而感困惑,甚至鬱悶憂慮,我們當怎麼辦?其實,往往就是在這樣的時刻,我們才會被逼得向神禱告呼求;也是這樣的時刻,我們可以清楚看到罪所帶來的後果,邪惡所具有的破壞力量。我們就會知道我們切切需要神的幫助,否則我們是沒有希望獲救的。

God Is My Strength and Portion Forever

A Psalm of Asaph.

73 Truly God is good to Israel,
to those who are pure in heart.
But as for me, my feet had almost stumbled,
my steps had nearly slipped.
For I was envious of the arrogant
when I saw the prosperity of the wicked.

For they have no pangs until death;
their bodies are fat and sleek.
They are not in trouble as others are;
they are not stricken like the rest of mankind.
Therefore pride is their necklace;
violence covers them as a garment.
Their eyes swell out through fatness;
their hearts overflow with follies.
They scoff and speak with malice;
loftily they threaten oppression.
They set their mouths against the heavens,
and their tongue struts through the earth.
10 Therefore his people turn back to them,
and find no fault in them.
11 And they say, “How can God know?
Is there knowledge in the Most High?”
12 Behold, these are the wicked;
always at ease, they increase in riches.
13 All in vain have I kept my heart clean
and washed my hands in innocence.
14 For all the day long I have been stricken
and rebuked every morning.
15 If I had said, “I will speak thus,”
I would have betrayed the generation of your children.

16 But when I thought how to understand this,
it seemed to me a wearisome task,
17 until I went into the sanctuary of God;
then I discerned their end.

18 Truly you set them in slippery places;
you make them fall to ruin.
19 How they are destroyed in a moment,
swept away utterly by terrors!
20 Like a dream when one awakes,
O Lord, when you rouse yourself, you despise them as phantoms.
21 When my soul was embittered,
when I was pricked in heart,
22 I was brutish and ignorant;
I was like a beast toward you.

23 Nevertheless, I am continually with you;
you hold my right hand.
24 You guide me with your counsel,
and afterward you will receive me to glory.
25 Whom have I in heaven but you?
And there is nothing on earth that I desire besides you.
26 My flesh and my heart may fail,
but God is the strength of my heart and my portion forever.

27 For behold, those who are far from you shall perish;
you put an end to everyone who is unfaithful to you.
28 But for me it is good to be near God;
I have made the Lord God my refuge,
that I may tell of all your works.

 

Reflection

  • In this psalm, Asaph related his inner struggle when he compared his life, as one committed to Jehovah God, with the lives of his acquaintances who did not put God first. He confessed discouragement. On further reflection he realized the sinfulness of his carnal longings. Finally, he explained that the contrast between these two lifestyles enabled him to keep a proper view of life in perspective.
  • Envious of the arrogant is something we can all understand. If the wicked prospers and God’s people suffer, this begs the question, “What good is faith, anyway”? “All in vain have I kept my heart clean” (v13).
  • The key and turning verse is v17. He was carrying his angry, discouragement, bitterness, and puzzlement “until I went into the sanctuary of God”. What exactly takes place in the sanctuary? Asaph had a changed perspective.  He realized the troubles he experienced were gifts from God, and that the easy life granted the wicked was actually “slippery places”.
  • Have you ever felt as Asaph did in this psalm. Read the whole psalm as your own conversation with God. Spend some time in the “sanctuary”(v17) and converse with God with verses 21-26. Tell God what comes up in your mind and heart. Listen to what God wants to say to you.

 

Prayer & Journaling:

Stay with God for a little longer.  Continue to converse with God and listen to what he wants to tell me.  Then write down any thought and/or prayer in the “Spiritual Journal” book.

73  神實在善待以色列,善待那些內心清潔的人。

至於我,我的腳幾乎滑跌,我險些跌倒。

我看見惡人興隆,我就嫉妒狂傲的人。

他們沒有痛苦,他們的身體又健康又肥壯。

他們沒有一般人所受的苦難,也不像普通人一樣遭遇災害。

所以,驕傲像鍊子戴在他們的頸項上,強暴好像衣裳穿在他們的身上。

他們的罪孽是出於麻木的心,他們心裡的惡念氾濫。

他們譏笑人,懷著惡意說欺壓人的話,他們說話自高。

他們用口褻瀆上天,他們用舌頭毀謗全地。

10 因此他的人民歸回那裡去,並且喝光了大量的水。

11 他們說:“ 神怎會曉得?至高者有知識嗎?”

12 看這些惡人,他們常享安逸,財富卻增加。

13 我謹守我心純潔實在徒然;我洗手表明清白也是枉然。

默想:

  • 這篇詩篇中,詩人亞薩提到,當他一個敬畏耶和華的人,將自己的生活與哪些不敬畏神的人相比時,他心中產生了很大的掙扎,他承認自己有失望。但是當他深一步思想時,他便看出自己的罪,最後他對人的一生,得到一個正確的看法。
  • 我們都能體會對順利富裕的傲慢人所生的嫉妒,事實上,若惡人發達,而神的子民卻受苦,我們就會問,“若是這樣,信神有什麼好處?”我們會像詩人一樣嘆息:“ 我謹守我心純潔實在徒然”(13節)。
  • 17節是轉折點,詩人帶著他的憤怒,沮喪,苦毒,以及困惑,“直到我進了 神的聖所,才明白他們的結局”。究竟在聖所中發生了什麼事情?亞薩的觀念全盤的改變,他了解他所經歷的苦難,其實是神的恩典,而惡人的順境其實是“滑地”(18節)。

260 Devotional, Mar. 5 Matthew Ch. 28

Before you begin, take a few moments to find and create for yourself a quiet space. You can turn off your phone and close any chat or other things that might interrupt your time. Give your time and attention wholly to God for the next while.

You might say a prayer, inviting God to speak to you, to reveal Himself to you and to help you grow in your knowledge and understanding of who He is and who He calls you to be.

 

Now after the Sabbath, toward the dawn of the first day of the week, Mary Magdalene and the other Mary went to see the tomb. And behold, there was a great earthquake, for an angel of the Lord descended from heaven and came and rolled back the stone and sat on it.His appearance was like lightning, and his clothing white as snow. And for fear of him the guards trembled and became like dead men. But the angel said to the women, “Do not be afraid, for I know that you seek Jesus who was crucified. He is not here, for he has risen, as he said. Come, see the place where he lay. Then go quickly and tell his disciples that he has risen from the dead, and behold, he is going before you to Galilee; there you will see him. See, I have told you.” So they departed quickly from the tomb with fear and great joy, and ran to tell his disciples. And behold, Jesus met them and said, “Greetings!” And they came up and took hold of his feet and worshiped him. 10 Then Jesus said to them, “Do not be afraid; go and tell my brothers to go to Galilee, and there they will see me.”

11 While they were going, behold, some of the guard went into the city and told the chief priests all that had taken place. 12 And when they had assembled with the elders and taken counsel, they gave a sufficient sum of money to the soldiers 13 and said, “Tell people, ‘His disciples came by night and stole him away while we were asleep.’ 14 And if this comes to the governor’s ears, we will satisfy him and keep you out of trouble.” 15 So they took the money and did as they were directed. And this story has been spread among the Jews to this day.

16 Now the eleven disciples went to Galilee, to the mountain to which Jesus had directed them. 17 And when they saw him they worshiped him, but some doubted.18 And Jesus came and said to them, “All authority in heaven and on earth has been given to me. 19 Go therefore and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, 20 teaching them to observe all that I have commanded you. And behold, I am with you always, to the end of the age.”

 

Meditation:

  • Matthew 28 focuses on the messengers of Jesus’ resurrection—the angel tells the women, the women tell the disciples, the disciples tell the nations, even the guards tell the religious leaders. As Matthew concludes his Gospel, we are invited to join with those who throughout history have been witnesses and messengers of Jesus, the victorious resurrected Lord.
  • The eleven did go to Galilee, and Jesus appeared as promised.  He gave them the Great Commission and authorized His disciples to make disciples of all nations, and promised to be with them until the end of the age.
  • Why did Jesus tell the disciples that He would be with them to the end of the age?  In what way is Jesus Christ with you today?
  • How can you be more involved in making disciples and fulfilling the Great Commission?

On your prayer journal, as you listen to God, write down a few thoughts, questions, words, names, drawings, or anything that has come to your mind during this time.

They compelled this man to carry his cross.33 And when they came to a place called Golgotha (which means Place of a Skull), 34 they offered him wine to drink, mixed with gall, but when he tasted it, he would not drink it. 35 And when they had crucified him, they divided his garments among them by casting lots. 36 Then they sat down and kept watch over him there. 37 And over his head they put the charge against him, which read, “This is Jesus, the King of the Jews.” 38 Then two robbers were crucified with him, one on the right and one on the left. 39 And those who passed by derided him, wagging their heads 40 and saying, “You who would destroy the temple and rebuild it in three days, save yourself! If you are the Son of God, come down from the cross.” 41 So also the chief priests, with the scribes and elders, mocked him, saying, 42 “He saved others; he cannot save himself. He is the King of Israel; let him come down now from the cross, and we will believe in him. 43 He trusts in God; let God deliver him now, if he desires him. For he said, ‘I am the Son of God.’” 44 And the robbers who were crucified with him also reviled him in the same way.

45 Now from the sixth hour there was darkness over all the land until the ninth hour. 46 And about the ninth hour Jesus cried out with a loud voice, saying, “Eli, Eli, lema sabachthani?” that is, “My God, my God, why have you forsaken me?” 47 And some of the bystanders, hearing it, said, “This man is calling Elijah.” 48 And one of them at once ran and took a sponge, filled it with sour wine, and put it on a reed and gave it to him to drink. 49 But the others said, “Wait, let us see whether Elijah will come to save him.” 50 And Jesus cried out again with a loud voice and yielded up his spirit.

51 And behold, the curtain of the temple was torn in two, from top to bottom. And the earth shook, and the rocks were split. 52 The tombs also were opened. And many bodies of the saints who had fallen asleep were raised, 53 and coming out of the tombs after his resurrection they went into the holy city and appeared to many. 54 When the centurion and those who were with him, keeping watch over Jesus, saw the earthquake and what took place, they were filled with awe and said, “Truly this was the Son of God!”

 

Meditation:

  • This chapter began with the news that Judas hanged himself. Jesus was condemned by Pilate, mocked by His executioners, and crucified. He was buried and His tomb placed under guard. But death is not the end!
  • The central event of Christian faith is the incredible humiliation of our God. His own people demanded his death, his friends deserted him.  And now even his loving Father has turned away.
  • Imagine yourself there at the scene watching as Jesus hangs on the cross, and is repeatedly mocked and insulted. And then as death begins to engulf him, you heard Jesus’ crying out to God.

My God, my God, why have you forsaken me?
Why are you so far from saving me, so far from the words of my groaning?
O my God, I cry out by day, but you do not answer, by night, and am not silent. (Ps 22:1-2)

  • What wells up inside you as you meditate on Jesus’ death? Read the passage again.  Allow yourself to sink into the event deeply, be aware of your reaction and talk to Jesus about it.
  • Find a place to be silent, such as walk in a quiet place or sit in an empty church sanctuary.  Continue meditate on Jesus’ sacrifice for you, and wait for what God’s response to you.

45 從正午到下午三點鐘,遍地都黑暗了。 46 大約三點鐘,耶穌大聲呼叫:“以利,以利,拉馬撒巴各大尼?”意思是“我的 神,我的 神,你為甚麼離棄我?” 47 有幾個站在那裡的人,聽見了就說:“這個人在呼叫以利亞呢。” 48 有一個人馬上跑去拿海綿蘸滿了酸酒,用蘆葦遞給他喝。 49 但其他的人說:“等一等,我們看看以利亞來不來救他。” 50 耶穌再大聲呼叫,氣就斷了。 51 忽然,聖所裡的幔子從上到下裂成兩半;地面震動,石頭崩裂; 52 而且墳墓開了,許多睡了的聖徒的身體也復活了, 53 從墳墓裡出來;到了耶穌復活之後,他們進到聖城向許多人顯現。 54 百夫長和跟他一起看守耶穌的士兵,看見了地震和所發生的事情,就十分懼怕,說:“這個人真是 神的兒子。”

 

默想:

  • 本章以猶大吊死開始,耶穌被彼拉多判決,受士兵戲弄,然後被釘十字架;埋葬,衛兵嚴密看守耶穌的墳墓。但是死亡並非終結!
  • 基督信仰的中心竟然是我們神極致的受辱,祂自己的同胞要求處死祂,祂的朋友離棄祂,連最親密的父都轉面不顧祂。
  • 想像你也在當場觀看耶穌被釘在十字架上,不斷遭受人的嘲諷;當祂臨終時,你聽見祂向父神的狂喊。

我的 神!我的 神!你為甚麼離棄我?
為甚麼遠離不救我,不聽我呻吟的話呢?
我的 神啊!我日間呼求,你不應允;
在晚上我還是不停止。(詩22:1-2)

  • 你心中此時漲溢的是什麼?死亡?驚奇?難過?漠不關心?把從心中浮上來的,一一告訴耶穌。輕輕地把自己拉回耶穌的犧牲與受死上,再讀一遍經文。讓自己深深地沉浸在整個事件中,繼續體會自己的反應,再繼續與主交談。
  • 今天找個安靜的地方去散步,或靜坐片刻,安靜默想基督為你的犧牲,並等待接受祂要給你的恩典。

30 And when they had sung a hymn, they went out to the Mount of Olives. 31 Then Jesus said to them, “You will all fall away because of me this night. For it is written, ‘I will strike the shepherd, and the sheep of the flock will be scattered.’ 32 But after I am raised up, I will go before you to Galilee.” 33 Peter answered him, “Though they all fall away because of you, I will never fall away.” 34 Jesus said to him, “Truly, I tell you, this very night, before the rooster crows, you will deny me three times.” 35 Peter said to him, “Even if I must die with you, I will not deny you!” And all the disciples said the same.

36 Then Jesus went with them to a place called Gethsemane, and he said to his disciples, “Sit here, while I go over there and pray.” 37 And taking with him Peter and the two sons of Zebedee, he began to be sorrowful and troubled. 38 Then he said to them, “My soul is very sorrowful, even to death; remain here, and watch with me.” 39 And going a little farther he fell on his face and prayed, saying, “My Father, if it be possible, let this cup pass from me; nevertheless, not as I will, but as you will.”40 And he came to the disciples and found them sleeping. And he said to Peter, “So, could you not watch with me one hour? 41 Watch and pray that you may not enter into temptation. The spirit indeed is willing, but the flesh is weak.” 42 Again, for the second time, he went away and prayed, “My Father, if this cannot pass unless I drink it, your will be done.” 43 And again he came and found them sleeping, for their eyes were heavy. 44 So, leaving them again, he went away and prayed for the third time, saying the same words again. 45 Then he came to the disciples and said to them, “Sleep and take your rest later on. See, the hour is at hand, and the Son of Man is betrayed into the hands of sinners. 46 Rise, let us be going; see, my betrayer is at hand.”

 

Meditation:

  • With these last chapters of Matthew, we enter the Christian’s holy of holies. We witness with a deep awe again the death and the resurrection of our Lord. Jesus predicted His imminent death as Judas plotted with the chief priests to betray Him. During a final meal Jesus instituted Communion, and predicted Peter’s denial. Jesus prayed in Gethsemane, where He was arrested and taken before the Jewish high court. Peter did deny his Lord.
  • Here recorded three times of Jesus’ prayer.  It clearly portrayed Jesus wrestling with God’s will and then finally accepting it.  It started with Jesus asking if it is possible for the cup (referring to God’s judgment expressed in and by the cross) to be removed from him.  “my Father” (vv39, 42). Jesus’ cup was not so much the physical torment He was about to experience, as it was the awful prospect of taking on Himself the sin of humankind. At that prospect, He said, “My soul is very sorrowful, even to death; remain here, and watch with me.” (v38) The next two times of prayer He says, “If this cannot … your will be done” (v42).  In all cases, Jesus addresses God in the most intimate terms as
  •  The disciples could not understand, or even stay awake to share the awful loneliness with Him. Jesus then said to the disciples, “Watch and pray … The spirit indeed is willing, but the flesh is weak.” (v42)
  • Meditate on Christ’s agony and share in His suffering.  Quietly sing this Taize song:

默想:

  • 來到馬太福音的最後幾章,我們進入耶穌生命的“至聖所”,再次為主的死與復活而受震撼。耶穌向門徒說到自己將臨的死亡,猶大卻與祭司長商討出賣耶穌之事,最後晚餐中耶穌設立聖餐,並預言彼得將不認主。耶穌在客西馬尼園中禱告,被捕,被帶到官府,彼得三次否認主。
  • 這段記載了耶穌三次的禱告,非常清晰的描述當時耶穌身心靈的掙扎,祂問神可否叫這杯(藉著十字架表明神的審判)離開祂,直到「若不能……願你的旨意成全」;並且每次都用「我父」這最親密的稱呼。

Then he went away. 16 He who had received the five talents went at once and traded with them, and he made five talents more. 17 So also he who had the two talents made two talents more. 18 But he who had received the one talent went and dug in the ground and hid his master’s money. 19 Now after a long time the master of those servants came and settled accounts with them. 20 And he who had received the five talents came forward, bringing five talents more, saying, ‘Master, you delivered to me five talents; here I have made five talents more.’ 21 His master said to him, ‘Well done, good and faithful servant. You have been faithful over a little; I will set you over much. Meditation:

  • Jesus used two parables to emphasize the importance of service. Ultimately Jesus will come again and establish His kingdom. God gives gifts to all his disciples: wealth, skills, time or opportunities. God wants us to use them fully. This is how we can serve him.
  • The master praised two of the slaves for they had done their best. But not the third slave. This slave was doing the safest thing, and the least work, to protect himself from hard work and punishment he thought he might receive if he lost it.
  • What resources and responsibilities has Jesus given you? How can you handle them in a good and faithful manner?
  • Think of one way you can use your gift today and this week.  Ask God to help you do it well for His sake.

默想:

  • 耶穌用兩個比喻來說明服事的重要,耶穌最終會再回來建立祂的國度。神給每個信徒都有不同的恩賜,可能是財富、才幹、時間、或機會。神要我們盡用每樣恩賜來服事神。
  • 這段經文的故事中,主人稱讚頭兩個僕人盡力作好工作,卻沒有稱讚最後那個僕人。這個僕人作了最安全的打算,花最少的努力,來保護自己不必勞力,並免受懲罰。
  • 神給了你哪些資源及責任?你如何以又忠心又良善的方式來處理這些恩賜?
  • 想一想,今天、這個星期,你可以如何實際地運用你的恩賜來做些什麼事情?求神幫助你,為祂好好地做。

Jesus left the temple and was going away, when his disciples came to point out to him the buildings of the temple. But he answered them, “You see all these, do you not? Truly, I say to you, there will not be left here one stone upon another that will not be thrown down.”

As he sat on the Mount of Olives, the disciples came to him privately, saying, “Tell us, when will these things be, and what will be the sign of your coming and of the end of the age?” And Jesus answered them, “See that no one leads you astray. For many will come in my name, saying, ‘I am the Christ,’ and they will lead many astray. And you will hear of wars and rumors of wars. See that you are not alarmed, for this must take place, but the end is not yet. For nation will rise against nation, and kingdom against kingdom, and there will be famines and earthquakes in various places. All these are but the beginning of the birth pains.

“Then they will deliver you up to tribulation and put you to death, and you will be hated by all nations for my name’s sake. 10 And then many will fall away and betray one another and hate one another. 11 And many false prophets will arise and lead many astray. 12 And because lawlessness will be increased, the love of many will grow cold. 13 But the one who endures to the end will be saved. 14 And this gospel of the kingdom will be proclaimed throughout the whole world as a testimony to all nations, and then the end will come.

 

Meditation:

  • Jesus did make specific predictions about the future. But He emphasized what His servants are to do until the future arrives. Jesus answered His disciples’ questions about the end of the age, the signs of His coming, and when these things will happen. He went on to emphasize the importance of being ready.
  • Think about the fact that Jesus Christ will return to this earth. Does this promise make you happy? Or is it like a danger to you? Make a list of what you might lose on that great day. Then make a list of what you will gain. Why is it hard for some Christians to believe that Jesus will return?
  • Imagine that Jesus will return in a month’s time. What would be different in your church? What would you do?
  • Let this question linger in your heart for a while.  Wait for God to show you how you may get ready for Jesus’ coming.

默想:

  • 耶穌說出將來要發生的事,祂強調門徒應當如何準備。祂回答門徒有關末世的問題,祂再來的徵兆,並何時會發生。然而祂繼續強調預備妥當的重要性。

1Then Jesus said to the crowds and to his disciples: 2“The teachers of the law and the Pharisees sit in Moses’ seat. 3So you must obey them and do everything they tell you. But do not do what they do, for they do not practice what they preach. 4They tie up heavy loads and put them on men’s shoulders, but they themselves are not willing to lift a finger to move them.  5“Everything they do is done for men to see: They make their phylacteries wide and the tassels on their garments long; 6they love the place of honor at banquets and the most important seats in the synagogues; 7they love to be greeted in the marketplaces and to have men call them ‘Rabbi.’  8“But you are not to be called ‘Rabbi,’ for you have only one Master and you are all brothers. 9And do not call anyone on earth ‘father,’ for you have one Father, and he is in heaven. 10Nor are you to be called ‘teacher,’ for you have one Teacher, the Christ. 11The greatest among you will be your servant. 12For whoever exalts himself will be humbled, and whoever humbles himself will be exalted.

13 “But woe to you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites! For you shut the kingdom of heaven in people’s faces. For you neither enter yourselves nor allow those who would enter to go in. 15 Woe to you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites! For you travel across sea and land to make a single proselyte, and when he becomes a proselyte, you make him twice as much a child of hell as yourselves.

16 “Woe to you, blind guides, who say, ‘If anyone swears by the temple, it is nothing, but if anyone swears by the gold of the temple, he is bound by his oath.’ 17 You blind fools! For which is greater, the gold or the temple that has made the gold sacred? 18 And you say, ‘If anyone swears by the altar, it is nothing, but if anyone swears by the gift that is on the altar, he is bound by his oath.’ 19 You blind men! For which is greater, the gift or the altar that makes the gift sacred? 20 So whoever swears by the altar swears by it and by everything on it. 21 And whoever swears by the temple swears by it and by him who dwells in it.22 And whoever swears by heaven swears by the throne of God and by him who sits upon it.

 

Meditation:

  • Jesus pronounced woes on the Pharisees and sages for their spiritual blindness, and lamented over the doomed city of Jerusalem.
  • Jesus’ disciples are commanded not to accept the title rabbi, father, or teacher, for there is only one final and authoritative teacher – not Moses or Solomon, but the Christ (v10).  Thus, Jesus’ followers must always remain learners.
  • Those who exalt themselves will be humbled and vice versa (v12).  Jesus repeatedly condemns play-acting, which is what the word “hypocrite” actually means.  Jesus’ criticism is aimed at the dichotomy between appearance and reality, between word and deed vv13-33).
  • How can you keep from being hypocrite: teaching (or saying) one thing and doing another? Ask God to make your Christian life consistent with your beliefs.

13 “虛偽的經學家和法利賽人哪,你們有禍了!你們在人面前關了天國的門,自己不進去,連正要進去的人,你們也不准他們進去。(有些抄本有第14節:“虛偽的經學家和法利賽人哪,你們有禍了!你們吞沒了寡婦的房產,假裝作冗長的禱告,所以你們必受更重的刑罰。”)

15 “虛偽的經學家和法利賽人哪,你們有禍了!你們走遍海洋陸地,要使一個人入教;當他入了教,你們卻使他淪為地獄之子,比你們更甚。

16 “你們這些瞎眼的嚮導有禍了!你們說:‘凡指著聖所而起的誓,是沒有用的;但指著聖所的金子而起的誓,就必須遵守。’ 17 你們這些瞎眼的愚昧人哪,到底是金子大,還是使金子成聖的聖所大呢?18 你們又說:‘凡指著祭壇所起的誓,是沒有用的;但指著壇上的祭物所起的誓,就必須遵守。’ 19 瞎眼的人哪!到底是祭物大,還是使祭物成聖的祭壇大呢? 20 所以,凡指著祭壇起誓的,他就是指著祭壇和壇上的一切起誓; 21 指著聖所起誓的,就是指著聖所和住在那裡的 神起誓; 22 指著天起誓的,就是指著 神的寶座和坐在寶座上的起誓。

 

默想:

  • 耶穌宣布法利賽人與經學家因為他們屬靈的盲目而有禍了,祂並為將遭毀的耶路撒冷城嘆息。
  • 耶穌吩咐門徒不要接受拉比、父或教師的頭銜,因為世上只有一位最終極、最具權威的教師——不是摩西或所羅門,而是基督(10節)。因此,跟從耶穌的人,要一生做學生。凡高舉自己的必降為卑,謙卑的人必升為高(12節)。
  • 耶穌反覆多次責備他們「假冒為善」,這意思就是「做戲」的行為。文士和法利賽人外表與實質不一致、說話與行為不配合,引致耶穌嚴厲的批評(13-33節)。
  • 你要怎樣避免成為假冒為善,說一套,做一套的人呢? 求神幫助你的基督徒生活與你的信仰一致。

260 Devotional, Feb. 25 Matthew Ch. 22

Before you begin, take a few moments to find and create for yourself a quiet space. You can turn off your phone and close any chat or other things that might interrupt your time. Give your time and attention wholly to God for the next while.

You might say a prayer, inviting God to speak to you, to reveal Himself to you and to help you grow in your knowledge and understanding of who He is and who He calls you to be.

 

34 But when the Pharisees heard that he had silenced the Sadducees, they gathered together. 35 And one of them, a lawyer, asked him a question to test him. 36 “Teacher, which is the great commandment in the Law?” 37 And he said to him, “You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind. 38 This is the great and first commandment. 39 And a second is like it: You shall love your neighbor as yourself. 40 On these two commandments depend all the Law and the Prophets.”

41 Now while the Pharisees were gathered together, Jesus asked them a question, 42 saying, “What do you think about the Christ? Whose son is he?” They said to him, “The son of David.” 43 He said to them, “How is it then that David, in the Spirit, calls him Lord, saying,

44 “‘The Lord said to my Lord,
“Sit at my right hand,
until I put your enemies under your feet”’?

45 If then David calls him Lord, how is he his son?” 46 And no one was able to answer him a word, nor from that day did anyone dare to ask him any more questions.

 

Meditation:

  • Jesus continued His parables pointing out the hardness of His people to God’s Kingdom. He turned aside verbal challenges and silenced His critics.
  • The entire law hinges on its central commands to love God and neighbor.  All the law and the prophets spoke was intended to nurture love for God and love for one’s neighbor.  God is to be loved wholeheartedly, which is the greatest commandment.  But this is impossible without the aid of God.
  • Hence the words of Augustine of Hippo, “Give what you command, Lord, and then command whatever you will”.
  • In what way do you want to grow in love right now:  Toward God?  Toward those in your family?  Toward the needy?  Toward yourself?  How would you do it?  Use the above prayer of Augustine of Hippo and ask God to help you grow in love in the specific way shown by the Holy Spirit.

On your prayer journal, as you listen to God, write down a few thoughts, questions, words, names, drawings, or anything that has come to your mind during this time.

默想:

  • 耶穌繼續用比喻來說明百姓對神的國度持有堅硬的心。祂應對那些向他挑戰的人,使他們啞口無言,無以作答。
  • 耶穌回答法利賽人,整個律法全繫於兩個核心的命令,就是愛神愛人;所有的律法和先知所說的,都是要培養我們對神和對鄰舍的愛。人要盡心愛神,這是最大的誡命;但沒有神幫助,人不可能做到。
  • 因此希坡的奧古斯丁說「主啊,求你把你所吩咐的賜給我,然後吩咐我遵行你的旨意。」
  • 現今你的愛心需要在哪方面有成長?對神?對家人?對有需要/窮困的?對自己?你當怎樣著手學習?將上列奧古斯丁的禱告,作為你的心聲,並真誠的向神禱告。

The disciples went and did as Jesus had directed them. They brought the donkey and the colt and put on them their cloaks, and he sat on them. Most of the crowd spread their cloaks on the road, and others cut branches from the trees and spread them on the road. And the crowds that went before him and that followed him were shouting, “Hosanna to the Son of David! Blessed is he who comes in the name of the Lord! Hosanna in the highest!”10 And when he entered Jerusalem, the whole city was stirred up, saying, “Who is this?” 11 And the crowds said, “This is the prophet Jesus, from Nazareth of Galilee.”

12 And Jesus entered the temple and drove out all who sold and bought in the temple, and he overturned the tables of the money-changers and the seats of those who sold pigeons. 13 He said to them, “It is written, ‘My house shall be called a house of prayer,’ but you make it a den of robbers.”

14 And the blind and the lame came to him in the temple, and he healed them. 15 But when the chief priests and the scribes saw the wonderful things that he did, and the children crying out in the temple, “Hosanna to the Son of David!” they were indignant, 16 and they said to him, “Do you hear what these are saying?” And Jesus said to them, “Yes; have you never read,

“‘Out of the mouth of infants and nursing babies
you have prepared praise’?”

17 And leaving them, he went out of the city to Bethany and lodged there.

 

Meditation:

  • Jesus now entered His last week on earth. He entered Jerusalem hailed as the Messiah. This angered temple leaders.
  • These merchants and money exchangers were extorting the pilgrims and making a big profit on the trade.  They have turned the temple into a high profit lucrative business enterprise.  No wonder Jesus was furious and drove them out.
  • If Jesus were to visit your church today, where might He begin “turning over tables”?
  • What about your life if Jesus comes to visit your heart, where might He begin “turning over tables”? Identify one area in which your actions need to be more consistent with your beliefs. Ask for God’s help.

耶穌和門徒走近耶路撒冷,來到橄欖山的伯法其那裡。耶穌派了兩個門徒, 對他們說:“你們往對面的村子裡去,立刻就會看見一頭驢拴在那裡,還有小驢跟牠在一起。把牠們解開,牽來給我。 如果有人問你們,就要說:‘主需要牠們。’他會立刻讓你們牽走。” 這件事應驗了先知所說的:

“要對錫安的居民(“居民”原文作“女子”)說:

‘看哪,你的王來到你這裡了;他是溫柔的,他騎著驢,騎的是小驢。’”

默想:

  • 耶穌進入祂在世的最後一週,祂光榮地進入耶路撒冷,被人擁護為彌賽亞,卻大大激怒了聖殿的官長。
    • 聖殿裡的商人和兌換錢幣的人,向遠道而來的朝聖者牟取暴利,使神的殿變成奸商謀利的販賣市場,難怪耶穌勃然大怒,趕出他們。
    • 如果耶穌今天來拜訪你的教會,祂會在哪些地方「推倒……桌子」?
    • 如果耶穌今天來到你的心中,祂會在哪些地方「推倒……桌子」?找出你生活中的某一方面的行為,需要更多與你的信仰連結,並為此禱告。

Lok-kei Law: Pastor’s Corner 2014-02-16

As it became increasingly clear that one must choose for or against Jesus, opposition to Him and to His kingdom hardened. Jesus claimed to be Lord of the Sabbath and the Servant predicted by Isaiah. This brought direct conflict with the Pharisees.

As I reflected upon the oppositions I have from following Jesus Christ, I only had some ridicules from a small number of my okios.  The opposition came when I tried to share the Gospel to my basketball friends.  Majority of my basketball friends are non-believers.  The ridicule came in the follow forms:

1. Why are you being so naive and so silly for believing a man made religious system?

2.  So you really give away 10% of your income towards the church?  You are such a foolish fanatic for wasting your money that way.  Will Jesus give you food when you follow Him?

3. Why do religious leaders use their power to abuse people?  Aren’t they suppose to be God’s servants?   (People’s perception of followers of Christ is negative because media covering scandals)

Overall, the opposition comes in the form of my values clashing the values of this world.  Jesus Christ did not verbally depend himself when he was accused.  He focused on doing God’s will of bringing healing and proclaiming the good news of the kingdom of God.  Likewise, God is telling me to focus on bringing healing through pointing the love of Jesus Christ to friends.  I am to focus on reflecting the love of Christ by following the example of Jesus Christ (v.18-21)

Overall, my family and close friends are very supportive in my walk with Jesus Christ.  My wife is very supportive of my role as a youth pastor here in PGC.  My parents are very supportive in my role as a youth pastor and I am very thankful for that.  I experienced tremendous love and support from brothers and sisters here at PGC.

For the brother and sisters I serve, some face opposition from the parents.  The parents would not like to see their teens spending their precious time away from academic development.  Some face opposition from peers in the form of ridicule similar to what I faced.  Going to fellowship means missing out on group hang out on Friday.

I  learn and read about brothers and sisters in places with severe persecution.  Following Jesus Christ means alienation from family, loss of status, and even imprisonment and death.  The Spirit draws me to pray and give financially to support brothers and sisters.
