260靈修 9月17日:歌羅西書第1章

15 這愛子是那看不見的 神的形象,是首先的,在一切被造的之上。16 因為天上地上的萬有:看得見的和看不見的,無論是坐王位的,或是作主的,或是執政的,或是掌權的,都是本著他造的;萬有都是藉著他,又是為著他而造的。 17 他在萬有之先;萬有也一同靠著他而存在。 18 他是身體的頭,這身體就是教會。他是元始,是死人中首先復生的,好讓他在凡事上居首位; 19 因為 神樂意使所有的豐盛都住在愛子裡面, 20 並且藉著他在十字架上所流的血成就了和平,使萬有,無論是地上天上的,都藉著他與 神和好了。

21 雖然你們從前也是和 神隔絕,心思上與他為敵,行為邪惡,22 但現今 神在愛子的肉身上,藉著他的死,使你們與 神和好了,為了要把你們這些聖潔、無瑕疵、無可指摘的人,呈獻在他面前。23 只是你們要常存信心,根基穩固,不受動搖偏離福音的盼望。這福音你們聽過了,也傳給了天下萬民;我保羅也作了這福音的僕役。

 

默想:

  1. 章一覽:若沒有基督,我們的信仰就毫無意義。保羅為歌羅西信徒禱告(3-14節),並針對基督的超越性(15-23節),以及祂在信徒生命中的同在(24-29節)作了深度的肯定。
  2. 我們常常聽別人會這麼說“條條道路通羅馬,至終都是殊途同歸。為什麼基督徒卻總是說只有耶穌才是達到神那裡的唯一道路?”你會怎樣回答?
  3. 這段經文是一首偉大的讚美詩,表達了基督信仰的核心真理。基督是萬有的主,超過世界上一切被造的,祂使神與一切被造物和好。我們的生命建基於此,也因此被重塑。因著基督的復和,我們得以返回神面前,成為“聖潔、無有瑕疵、無可指摘的人”。基督的超越性表示祂是宇宙的全能統治者;道成肉身表明神的至大權能,藉著耶穌基督彰顯在世界上;基督的內住,意味神繼續透過我們,在這世界彰顯祂的能力。。
  4. 安靜的再讀21-23節,每次保羅說到“你們”時,將你的名字代進入。當你這樣讀的時候,有什麼感受、有什麼詞語或思想,浮上你的思想中?你對耶穌基督,對你在基督裡的新生命,有什麼更深的體會?和神對話,等候,聆聽神對你說話。

保羅告訴我們,教會在地上的工作是由基督開始的。今天,信徒多數是透過某間本地的教會,來繼續完成基督的工作。你對自己的教會認識多少?邀請一位在教會很久時間的信徒,來家中相聚,並請他告訴你們一些有關教會的歷史、趣事。

260 Devotional, Sept 16, Philippians 4

10 I rejoiced in the Lord greatly that now at length you have revived your concern for me. You were indeed concerned for me, but you had no opportunity. 11 Not that I am speaking of being in need, for I have learned in whatever situation I am to be content. 12 I know how to be brought low, and I know how to abound. In any and every circumstance, I have learned the secret of facing plenty and hunger, abundance and need. 13 I can do all things through him who strengthens me.

14 Yet it was kind of you to share my trouble. 15 And you Philippians yourselves know that in the beginning of the gospel, when I left Macedonia, no church entered into partnership with me in giving and receiving, except you only. 16 Even in Thessalonica you sent me help for my needs once and again. 17 Not that I seek the gift, but I seek the fruit that increases to your credit. 18 I have received full payment, and more. I am well supplied, having received from Epaphroditus the gifts you sent, a fragrant offering, a sacrifice acceptable and pleasing to God. 19 And my God will supply every need of yours according to his riches in glory in Christ Jesus. 20 To our God and Father be glory forever and ever. Amen.

 

Reflection

  1. Chapter in a Glance: Paul exhorted the Philippian Christians (vv1-9), gave a most unusual thank-you note (vv10-20), and added final greetings (vv21-23).
  2. Many people believe they can only be content and happy once they have reached a certain level of economic prosperity. How does their view differ from Paul’s secret of contentment?  How is your view compared with Paul’s?  How can you become a better giver? Or a better receiver?
  3. Richard Foster defines “simplicity” as “an inward reality that results in an outward lifestyle” (Celebration of Discipline).  According to Paul, what is the inward reality?  How close are you to experiencing this in your life?  What can you do to encourage it?
  4. Pray for Christian workers you know, that they would have the emotional and financial support they need.

If you have a prayer journal, as you listen to God, write down a few thoughts, questions, words, names, drawings, or anything that has come to your mind during this time.

Have you thanked God for his many gifts to you lately? Take time to name the gifts God’s given to your family and each member.  Talk about the missionary your family is praying and caring for.  Have a discussion about sending them a gift package. 

Proverbs for Today 22:17-18

17 Incline your ear, and hear the words of the wise,
    and apply your heart to my knowledge,
18 for it will be pleasant if you keep them within you,
    if all of them are ready on your lips.

默想:

  1. 章一覽:保羅勸勉腓立比信徒(1-9節),作了頗不尋常的致謝(10-20節),再加上最後的問安(21-23節)。
  2. 不少人認為,他們必須達到某一個程度的經濟富裕,才會滿足與喜樂。這個看法與保羅得滿足的秘訣有什麼差別?你自己的看法與保羅的看法有什麼不同嗎?你怎樣可以成為更好的施予者,或是一位更好的接受者?
  3. 傅士德在“屬靈操練的禮讚”一書中,為“簡樸”作了這樣的定義:“從內在的真實光景,流露出來的外在生活方式”。對保羅來說,內在的真實光景是什麼呢?你的內在生命中有類似的體驗嗎?怎樣可以更多有類似這樣的經歷與體驗?
  4. 為你所認識的傳道人或宣教士禱告,求神豐富的供應他們情感以及經濟上的需要。

260 Devotional, Sept 13, Philippians 3

Finally, my brothers, rejoice in the Lord. To write the same things to you is no trouble to me and is safe for you.

Look out for the dogs, look out for the evildoers, look out for those who mutilate the flesh. For we are the circumcision, who worship by the Spirit of God and glory in Christ Jesus and put no confidence in the flesh— though I myself have reason for confidence in the flesh also. If anyone else thinks he has reason for confidence in the flesh, I have more: circumcised on the eighth day, of the people of Israel, of the tribe of Benjamin, a Hebrew of Hebrews; as to the law, a Pharisee; as to zeal, a persecutor of the church; as to righteousness under the law, blameless. But whatever gain I had, I counted as loss for the sake of Christ. Indeed, I count everything as loss because of the surpassing worth of knowing Christ Jesus my Lord. For his sake I have suffered the loss of all things and count them as rubbish, in order that I may gain Christ and be found in him, not having a righteousness of my own that comes from the law, but that which comes through faith in Christ, the righteousness from God that depends on faith— 10 that I may know him and the power of his resurrection, and may share his sufferings, becoming like him in his death, 11 that by any means possible I may attain the resurrection from the dead.

 

Reflection

  1. Chapter in a Glance: Paul had abandoned confidence in his own works (vv1-6) to trust Christ completely (vv7-11).  All mature believers will follow Paul’s example and press toward this goal (vv12-17), eagerly awaiting Christ’s return and our transformation (vv18-21).
  2. Paul had credentials: his family heritage, education, and zeal.  These would have secured him a prominent place in the society.  But Paul’s encounter with Christ radically changed him.  When Paul met the risen Christ, his resume did nothing for him.  What mattered now was relationship with Christ.  Christians learn to recognize and abandon those things that must be counted as losses (possessions, credentials, attitudes, etc.) in light of our encounter with Christ (the gain of our relationship with Christ).
  3. What are the things that you count “gain” but actually are “loss” and may become “weight and sin that clings so closely” (Heb 12:1) for your heaven-bound journey?  How can you change your perspective and consider everything as secondary to knowing Jesus as your Lord?

1最後,我的弟兄們,你們要靠著主喜樂。我寫這些話給你們,在我並不困難,對你們卻是妥當的。

  1. 章一覽:保羅放棄了依靠自己過去的一切(1-6節),而全然信靠基督(7-11節)。成熟的基督徒都當效仿保羅的榜樣,朝這個目標努力(12-17節),熱切地等候基督再臨,以及我們身體的改變(18-21節)。
  2. 保羅本有傲人的資歷,他的家世、教育、和宗教熱忱,本可使他穩獲高位,前途無量。但他在與基督相遇時,徹底改變了;他傲人的履歷在主面前毫無用處,所有他以前認為有益的,如今都當作有損了;唯一要緊的,就是他與基督的關係。我們因遇見基督(得到我們與基督建立的關係),也將那些事物看作是有損的(財產、資歷、和態度等等)。

260 Devotional, Sept 12, Philippians 2

So if there is any encouragement in Christ, any comfort from love, any participation in the Spirit, any affection and sympathy, complete my joy by being of the same mind, having the same love, being in full accord and of one mind. Do nothing from selfish ambition or conceit, but inhumility count others more significant than yourselves.Let each of you look not only to his own interests, but also to the interests of others. Have this mind among yourselves, which is yours in Christ Jesus, who, though he was in the form of God, did not count equality with God a thing to be grasped, but emptied himself, by taking the form of a servant, being born in the likeness of men.And being found in human form, he humbled himself by becoming obedient to the point of death, even death on a cross. Therefore God has highly exalted him and bestowed on him the name that is above every name,10 so that at the name of Jesus every knee should bow, in heaven and on earth and under the earth, 11 and every tongue confess that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father.

Reflection

  1. Chapter in a Glance: Paul urged the Philippian Christians to imitate Jesus Christ who being equal with God yet whose incarnation and life are the supreme example of humility (vv1-18).  He commended two men he was about to send to Philippi (vv19-30).
  2. Here Paul encouraged Christians to look at the attitude of humility Jesus displayed, and adopt it in our relationships with others.  Whatever basis we might have for believing we are better than others, all pale to utter insignificance when we see Jesus, willing to abandon His rightful claim of full equality with God, to not only become a human being, but even to die on a cross.
  3. It’s no wonder that Christians have been considered weak, dull, too scrupulous or too cowardly, to make it big in the world.  What the world doesn’t understand is that Christians choose humility not out of weakness, but out of strength.
  4. How would things change if you consistently applied v v3-8 in your family? Church?  Work?  Which do you need to work on now?

Paul said you should become like Christ and be a servant. He said you should look out for others’ interests. Talk about how one can be a servant and not get hurt in the process. Do you know people whose needs you should respond to? Do you have a new neighbor you should welcome? Decide on someone you could visit and help in some way.

Whoever has a bountiful eye will be blessed,
    for he shares his bread with the poor.
10 Drive out a scoffer, and strife will go out,
    and quarreling and abuse will cease.
11 He who loves purity of heart,

260靈修 9月12日:腓立比書第2章

所以,你們在基督裡若有甚麼鼓勵,有甚麼愛心的安慰,有甚麼靈裡的契通,有甚麼慈悲和憐憫, 就應當有同樣的思想,同樣的愛心,要心志相同,思想一致,使我充滿喜樂。 不要自私自利,也不要貪圖虛榮,只要謙卑,看別人比自己強; 各人不要單顧自己的事,也要顧別人的事。 你們應當有這樣的思想,這也是基督耶穌的思想。(全節或譯:“你們當以基督耶穌的心為心。”) 他本來有 神的形象,卻不堅持自己與 神平等的地位, 反而倒空自己,取了奴僕的形象,成為人的樣式; 既然有人的樣子,就自甘卑微,順服至死,而且死在十字架上。 因此 神把他升為至高,並且賜給他超過萬名之上的名。 10 使天上、地上和地底下的一切,因著耶穌的名,都要屈膝, 11 並且口裡承認耶穌基督為主,使榮耀歸給父 神。

 

默想:

1.   章一覽:保羅督促腓立比信徒要效仿基督,祂雖與神同等,但祂道成肉身來到人間,在世所過的生活,確為謙卑的終極榜樣(1-18節);繼而推介兩位即將前往腓立比的同工(19-30節)

2.   耶穌基督甘願放棄與神同等的尊貴身份,謙卑降世,不單成為卑微的人,並且死在十字架上。當我們將自認為高人一等、卓越出眾的因素,與耶穌在世的一生相比時,一切變得極其蒼白、不足為道了。

3.   世人經常會誤會,以為基督徒是軟弱、遲鈍、一絲不苟、膽卻懦弱,無法在世上出人頭地的一類。事實上,世人所不明白的乃是:基督徒效仿基督,甘心選擇謙卑,並非出於軟弱,而是出於內在的剛強。

4.   如果你秉持3-8節的教導,持續地實踐在家中、教會、工作的場合,事情會有怎樣的改變?哪一方面是你現在就需要開始操練的?

保羅教導信徒應當效仿基督,做個僕人。他要信徒經常為別人的益處著想。討論一下,你怎樣可以成為僕人而不致於被別人欺負。你知道有什麼人需要幫助的,例如:歡迎一個新搬來的鄰居?討論一下,你們一家人可以做些什麼,去探望,並且在哪方面給予一些實際的幫忙。

Paul and Timothy, servants of Christ Jesus,

To all the saints in Christ Jesus who are at Philippi, with the overseers and deacons:

Grace to you and peace from God our Father and the Lord Jesus Christ.

I thank my God in all my remembrance of you, always in every prayer of mine for you all making my prayer with joy, because of your partnership in the gospel from the first day until now. And I am sure of this, that he who began a good work in you will bring it to completion at the day of Jesus Christ. It is right for me to feel this way about you all, because I hold you in my heart, for you are all partakers with me of grace, both in my imprisonment and in the defense and confirmation of the gospel. For God is my witness, how I yearn for you all with the affection of Christ Jesus. And it is my prayer that your love may abound more and more, with knowledge and all discernment, 10 so that you may approve what is excellent, and so be pure and blameless for the day of Christ, 11 filled with the fruit of righteousness that comes through Jesus Christ, to the glory and praise of God.

 

Reflection

  1. Chapter in a Glance.  Paul thanked God and prayed for his partners in the gospel (vv1-11). He assured them that his imprisonment had been a good thing (vv12-26), and encouraged them to stand firm together (vv27-30).
  2. Have any of your good friends ever told you what they appreciate about you? Have you ever listened while others prayed for you? If so, how do you feel when you are assured that others care for you?
  3. As you read the passage, try to imagine yourself sitting with your whole church listening to this letter as if it’s written for your church. What emotion, phrases, or thoughts come to you?  Allow God to speak to you about what that word or phrase means and listen to what He has to say.
  4. Take a few minutes to put Paul’s prayer into your own words.  Use this to pray for your church and your group.

Have you ever been in a new town or new school or new situation and felt you had no friends? Possibly at those times, you recognized how friends are a true gift from God. Paul recognized this as he wrote from prison to his friends at Philippi.  Have each family member write a letter to a friend, or a greeting card. Tell your friend you thank God each time you remember her or him. End this time by having one parent leading the family in thanking God for each of the friends mentioned.

 

Proverbs for Today 22:5-8

Thorns and snares are in the way of the crooked;
    whoever guards his soul will keep far from them.
Train up a child in the way he should go;
    even when he is old he will not depart from it.
The rich rules over the poor,
    and the borrower is the slave of the lender.
Whoever sows injustice will reap calamity,
    and the rod of his fury will fail.

默想:

  1. 全章一覽:本書信一開始,保羅為他在福音上的同伴——腓立比教會的信徒——感謝神,並為他們禱告(1-11節)。他說道,自己被囚其實是件好事(12-26節),並鼓勵他們一同站立得穩(27-30節)。
  2. 你是否曾經有好朋友告訴過你,他們欣賞你某些地方?有沒有聽過別人為你禱告?若有,在你聽到別人關心你,欣賞你的時候,你有什麼感受?

260 Devotional, Sept 10, Ephesians 6

10 Finally, be strong in the Lord and in the strength of his might. 11 Put on the whole armor of God, that you may be able to stand against the schemes of the devil. 12 For we do not wrestle against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against the authorities, against the cosmic powers over this present darkness, against the spiritual forces of evil in the heavenly places. 13 Therefore take up the whole armor of God, that you may be able to withstand in the evil day, and having done all, to stand firm. 14 Stand therefore, having fastened on the belt of truth, and having put on the breastplate of righteousness, 15 and, as shoes for your feet, having put on the readiness given by the gospel of peace. 16 In all circumstances take up the shield of faith, with which you can extinguish all the flaming darts of the evil one; 17 and take the helmet of salvation, and the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God, 18 praying at all times in the Spirit, with all prayer and supplication. To that end keep alert with all perseverance, making supplication for all the saints, 19 and also for me, that words may be given to me in opening my mouth boldly to proclaim the mystery of the gospel, 20 for which I am an ambassador in chains, that I may declare it boldly, as I ought to speak.

 

Reflection

  1. Paul examines mutual responsibilities of children and parents (v1-4), and of slaves and masters (v5-9).  Paul reviewed the teaching of this letter, picturing the resources God had provided as a soldier’s armor (v10-20), and closes with brief greetings (v21-24).
  2. Ephesians is a book about the church. In it Paul presented Christ’s church as a body, a family, and a holy temple. Each of these images calls for Christians to live together in love and unity. It is this dominant theme of the book that helps us understand the nature of the devil’s schemes, and the armor God has provided us to use in withstanding them. Simply, the devil’s schemes in Ephesians are his strategies for disrupting the unity of the church. And the armor of God is God’s resource for maintaining unity.
  3. Use the following as you pray about your fight in spiritual warfare.

Dear God,

Keep my mind free from worry and from being controlled by my own plans.  Instead, I ask for the mind of Christ.  (Helmet of salvation )

Thank you that Jesus died for me that I can be righteous in your sight.  Please give me a heart of love like Christ’s. (Breastplate of Righteousness)

Please help me see the truth about myself and the situations around me through the mirror of your Scriptures.  (Belt of Truth)

Help me to be aware of the nudges of the Holy Spirit today everywhere I go and help me to be ready to share the gospel on these nudges.  (Shoes of Gospel of Peace) 

Help me to trust you and believe that you are always with me. (Shield of Faith)

Come Holy Spirit and empower me today.  (Sword of the Spirit)

  1. 以弗所書最後一章,保羅先教導兒女與父母彼此的關係(1-4節),以及奴僕與主人的關係(5-9節)。保羅再重溫這封信的主要教導,強調神已經賜下我們所有需要的資源像全副武裝一樣(10-20節),並以簡短的問安結束這封信(21-24節)。

因此,你們既然是蒙愛的兒女,就應當效法 神。 要憑著愛心行事,好像基督愛我們,為我們捨己,當作馨香的供品和祭物獻給 神。 至於淫亂和任何污穢或貪心的事,在你們中間連提都不可提,才合聖徒的體統。 更不要講淫穢和愚妄的話,或下流的笑話,這些都與你們不相稱;卻要說感謝的話。 因為你們確實知道,無論是淫亂的、污穢的或貪心的(貪心就是拜偶像),都得不到在基督和 神的國裡的基業。

默想:

  1. 保羅在第五章再次回到信徒“行事為人,要配得上你們所蒙的呼召”(4:1)的主題,他呼籲信徒要效法神,做事有愛心(1節),過聖潔的生活(2-14節),順從聖靈(15-18節)並彼此順服(19-20節),尤其是在家庭中活出基督的樣式來(21-33節)。
  2. 保羅要我們效法神的榜樣,這對我們來說本是不可能的,但因為我們現在是神“蒙愛的兒女”(1節),既為神的兒女,神的生命就深植於我們心中。有這新生命,我們就有可能逐漸改變像神的樣子。因此,我們必須決定是否要成為基督的生命,或是要回到舊人的生命去。
  3. 安靜在神面前幾分鐘,專注在“效法神”幾個字上。心中有什麼念頭?興奮?喜樂?慚愧?失望?沮喪?恐懼?將心中的感受告訴神。
  4. 以小孩子向父親說話的態度來向神談話,告訴神你想要如何效法祂。

But grace was given to each one of us according to the measure of Christ’s gift. Therefore it says,

“When he ascended on high he led a host of captives,
and he gave gifts to men.”

(In saying, “He ascended,” what does it mean but that he had also descended into the lower regions, the earth? 10 He who descended is the one who also ascended far above all the heavens, that he might fill all things.) 11 And he gave the apostles, the prophets, the evangelists, the shepherds and teachers, 12 to equip the saints for the work of ministry, for building up the body of Christ, 13 until we all attain to the unity of the faith and of the knowledge of the Son of God, to mature manhood, to the measure of the stature of the fullness of Christ, 14 so that we may no longer be children, tossed to and fro by the waves and carried about by every wind of doctrine, by human cunning, by craftiness in deceitful schemes. 15 Rather, speaking the truth in love, we are to grow up in every way into him who is the head, into Christ, 16 from whom the whole body, joined and held together by every joint with which it is equipped, when each part is working properly, makes the body grow so that it builds itself up in love.

 

Reflection

  1. Paul encouraged them to preserve unity (v1-3), he laid down the foundation for unity (v4-6), listed the many gifts God has given to the church (v7-11), and explained how to use these gifts in love and truth in order to build up the body of Christ into maturity (v12-16). Starting verse 17, Paul began to admonish believers who have put off the old self and put on the new self to start living the new life in true righteousness and holiness. The last part of this chapter, Paul encouraged believers to live a holy life.
  2. The church is a diverse body composed of many different people who must give attention to preserve their unity. The Spirit gives gifts to every believer so that, by all of us exercising these gifts, we will build each other up to be more and more like Christ, thus to preserve the unity of the church.
  3. This list of gifts (v11) is by no means exhaustive.  Similar lists appear in Paul’s other letters.  Here, Paul says that the purpose of these gifts is “to train Christ’s followers, so that the body of Christ may be built up”.
  4. What gifts has God given you?  How are you using them?  Thank God for the gifts he’s given you and other members of the church.  Pray that you will do your part to help build up the church.

In v11, Paul identified five things God prepares Christians to do. What are they?  What other kinds of work might God prepare Christians to do? (Check Rom 12:4-8) What do you think God may be preparing you to do with your life?

我們各人蒙恩,是照著基督量給我們的恩賜。 所以他說:

“他升上高天的時候,

把賞賜給了人。”

(“他升上”這句話是甚麼意思呢?他不是也曾降到地上嗎? 10 那降下的,就是那升到諸天之上的,為了要使他充滿萬有。) 11 他所賜的,有作使徒的,有作先知的,有作傳福音的,也有作牧養和教導的, 12 為的是要裝備聖徒,去承擔聖工,建立基督的身體; 13 直到我們眾人對 神的兒子都有一致的信仰和認識,可以長大成人,達到基督豐盛長成的身量; 14 使我們不再作小孩子,中了人的詭計和騙人的手段,給異教之風搖撼,飄來飄去, 15 卻要在愛中過誠實的生活,在各方面長進,達到基督的身量。他是教會的頭, 16 全身靠著他,藉著每一個關節的支持,照著每部分的功用,配合聯繫起來,使身體漸漸長大,在愛中建立自己。

 

默想

  1. 保羅先勸勉信徒保守合一(1-3節),接著說明合一的真理基礎(4-6節),主為教會賜下各種恩賜(7-11節),教會當運用恩賜在愛與真理中,才能建立基督的身體並長大成熟(12-16節)。從17節開始,他勸勉各人“既已脫去舊人,穿上新人”,就當棄絕舊人的行為,活出新人的新生命,亦即活出有真理的仁義和聖潔,本章最後一段,保羅勉勵信徒要過聖潔的生活。
  2. 教會是由不同的人組成的,每個信徒都當竭力保守教會的合一。在12節,保羅指出恩賜的目的是為“裝備(訓練)聖徒”。聖靈賜給我們恩賜,當我們都使用這些恩賜時,我們就能幫助彼此越來越像基督。也就因此保全教會的合一。(保羅在11節並沒有羅列所有的恩賜,他在其他的書信中,有提到類似、以及其他的恩賜),但保羅明說恩賜的目的, “為的是要裝備聖徒,去承擔聖工,建立基督的身體”。
  3. 神給了你什麼恩賜?你如何使用它們?感謝神賜給你及教會其他弟兄姐妹不同的恩賜,求主助你能盡本分,參與建立教會。

默想:

  1. 保羅在第二章下半章說到外邦人的蒙恩,透過基督的十架與以色列人合一,兩下變成一個新群體。第三章保羅說明自己職分,是要完成神的旨意,藉著這不同族群成為一體的教會,彰顯祂百般的智慧(1-13節)。因此14節開始,保羅為信徒的合一而禱告,求神讓他們眾聖徒一同明白基督的愛,終為神的愛所充滿。最後(20-212節),保羅在信心與盼望中唱出歸榮耀與神的頌歌。
  2. 今天這段靈修經文中,保羅重複地提到“愛”及“大能”,他懇切地希望信徒能夠在“愛中扎根建基”,以致於能夠“和眾聖徒一同領悟基督的愛”(18-19節)。如何能夠領悟、明白神的愛呢?就是要經歷基督的愛之長闊高深。你在這幾節中對於愛和能力,有什麼領悟及學習?
  3. 今天,一個真正屬靈教會的標記仍然是“彼此相愛”。用這段經文來為教會及信徒禱告,求主使你的教會家庭有“彼此相愛”的標記,並且能深刻體驗、明白基督的愛是何等長闊高深。

Reflection

  1. In the second half of the previous chapter, Paul looks at the salvation for the Gentiles.  Through Christ’s dying on the cross, Gentiles and Jews are reconciled and became one in the new community – church. In this chapter, Paul explained that the goal of his ministry is to display God’s wisdom in bringing different peoples into a unified church (v1-13). Since God has blessed us so greatly, Paul prayed that believers (and all Christians) would comprehend fully the extent of God’s love for them (vv. 14-21).
  2. Paul repeatedly mentions “love” and “power” in this passage.  He earnestly desired that God’s people be “rooted and established in love” in order that we have power “together with all the saints” to grasp and know the love of Christ (vv18-19).  How can we grasp or understand love?  By experiencing the width and length and height and depth of the love of Christ.  What do you learn about power and love in these verses?
  3. The mark of a truly spiritual church is still, “See how they love one another.”  With today’s passage in mind, pray for your church that you, as a church family, may bear the mark of “loving one another” and may experience deeply the love of Christ.

1 And you were dead in the trespasses and sins in which you once walked, following the course of this world, following the prince of the power of the air, the spirit that is now at work in the sons of disobedience— among whom we all once lived in the passions of our flesh, carrying out the desires of the body and the mind, and were by nature children of wrath, like the rest of mankind. But God, being rich in mercy, because of the great love with which he loved us, even when we were dead in our trespasses, made us alive together with Christ—by grace you have been saved— and raised us up with him and seated us with him in the heavenly places in Christ Jesus, so that in the coming ages he might show the immeasurable riches of his grace in kindness toward us in Christ Jesus. For by grace you have been saved through faith. Reflection

  1. Paul explained how all spiritual blessings given by God (ch 1) actually became reality to each believer.  He contrasted what the believer was before regeneration with what he or she is after. All the glory for the change goes to God who provided salvation for people. God gave us life and called us to good works, that his grace might be displayed. We do not need to do good works to merit salvation.
  2. One of the best-known verses in the book of Ephesians is 2:8, “By grace you have been saved, through faith.”
  3. Focus on God’s graciousness to you in the past days, weeks and months. Allow yourself to experience the depth of his goodness. Respond to him in prayer and praise.
  4. Sing “Amazing Grace” meditatively and continue conversation with God.

Amazing Grace, how sweet the sound, that saved a wretch like me
I once was lost but now am found, was blind, but now, I see.

T’was Grace that taught my heart to fear. And Grace, my fears relieved.
How precious did that Grace appear the hour I first believed.

Through many dangers, toils and snare, we have already come.

Talk about what grace is. “Grace is kindness from God we don’t deserve. There is nothing we have done, nor can ever do to earn this favor. It is a gift from God.” Sing together “Amazing Grace” in praising and thanking God for His Amazing Grace to each one of you.

15 For this reason, because I have heard of your faith in the Lord Jesus and your love toward all the saints, 16 I do not cease to give thanks for you, remembering you in my prayers, 17 that the God of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of glory, may give you the Spirit of wisdom and of revelation in the knowledge of him, 18 having the eyes of your hearts enlightened, that you may know what is the hope to which he has called you, what are the riches of his glorious inheritance in the saints, 19 and what is the immeasurable greatness of his power toward us who believe, according to the working of his great might 20 that he worked in Christ when he raised him from the dead and seated him at his right hand in the heavenly places, 21 far above all rule and authority and power and dominion, and above every name that is named, not only in this age but also in the one to come. 22 And he put all things under his feet and gave him as head over all things to the church, 23 which is his body, the fullness of him who fills all in all.

 

Reflection

  1. Paul began the body of his letter by revealing the spiritual blessings that God has planned for believers in His Son. (v3-14) He then prayed that they would appreciate and appropriate these good things in their own lives. He moved from benediction to intercession.(v15-23)
  2. Paul’s prayer for the believers is that they might come to know God intimately (v17). This is so that we might better appreciate all spiritual blessings God’s given us:
    the past: calling to salvation that gives us hope (v18), the future: inheritance that we constitute for God (v18), and the present: power of God available to us (v19).
    God manifested this power in the past in Christ’s resurrection and ascension (v20-21). He will manifest it in the future by making Jesus Christ the head over all creation (v22). He is now manifesting this power in Jesus Christ’s headship over the church (v23).
  3. When you pray for fellow Christians, how do you usually pray for them? In what ways would you like your prayers be more like Paul’s?
  4. Use Paul’s prayer in vv17-19 to pray for the individuals in your church.  How does praying this prayer affect your appreciation of God, yourself, the individuals you are praying for?  What will happen if your group prayed these verses every week for each other? Try it and see.

默想

  1. 在第六章,保羅繼續第五章生活上倫理道德的教導。保羅要信徒明白,雖然我們已從摩西的律法中釋放出來,但並不表示我們就毫無責任可言。信徒之間應當要彼此看守、互相幫助,共同明辨神的旨意。信徒生命有聖靈果子的彰顯,並非是神秘不可及的;其實屬靈生命是在尋常生活中,人與人的關係上,以及個人對財物的態度上,就可以表明出來。

260 Devotional, Sept 2, Galatians 6

1 Brothers, if anyone is caught in any transgression, you who are spiritual should restore him in a spirit of gentleness. Keep watch on yourself, lest you too be tempted. Bear one another’s burdens, and so fulfill the law of Christ. For if anyone thinks he is something, when he is nothing, he deceives himself. But let each one test his own work, and then his reason to boast will be in himself alone and not in his neighbor. For each will have to bear his own load.

 6 Let the one who is taught the word share all good things with the one who teaches. Do not be deceived: God is not mocked, for whatever one sows, that will he also reap. For the one who sows to his own flesh will from the flesh reap corruption, but the one who sows to the Spirit will from the Spirit reap eternal life. And let us not grow weary of doing good, for in due season we will reap, if we do not give up. 10 So then, as we have opportunity, let us do good to everyone, and especially to those who are of the household of faith.

 

Reflection

  1. Being free from the Mosaic Law does not mean being free from responsibility. In this section Paul explained various responsibilities that Christians have to one another to clarify the will of God for them. Manifesting the fruit of the Spirit is not a mystical experience. Paul said spirituality is evident in personal relationships (vv. 1-5) and in the use of money (vv. 6-10).
  2. Reading through this passage slowly once or twice again.  At each responsibility Paul mentioned, and ask if God is speaking to you on a particular area?
  3. Paul expressed a basic truth. We can now choose our way of life. But God has chosen the consequences.  What is the path you choose?
  4. What can you do this week to “sow to please the Spirit” (v8)?

Plan a “D0-Good Activity”.  Identify a person who needs help.  Next, decide what good thing your family could do to help.  Perhaps you could rake leaves, deliver cookies, do grocery shopping, or make a visit.  You may want to continue helping for a period of time if appropriate.  Assign responsibilities, write them on your Family Devotional Journal and begin the activity.  Remember, do not get tired of doing good!

Proverbs for Today 21:12-14

12 The Righteous One observes the house of the wicked;
    he throws the wicked down to ruin.
13 Whoever closes his ear to the cry of the poor
    will himself call out and not be answered.
14 A gift in secret averts anger,
    and a concealed bribe, strong wrath.

260 Devotional, August 30, Galatians 5

16 But I say, walk by the Spirit, and you will not gratify the desires of the flesh. 17 For the desires of the flesh are against the Spirit, and the desires of the Spirit are against the flesh, for these are opposed to each other, to keep you from doing the things you want to do. 18 But if you are led by the Spirit, you are not under the law. 19 Now the works of the flesh are evident: sexual immorality, impurity, sensuality, 20 idolatry, sorcery, enmity, strife, jealousy, fits of anger, rivalries, dissensions, divisions, 21 envy,[d] drunkenness, orgies, and things like these. I warn you, as I warned you before, that those who do such things will not inherit the kingdom of God. 22 But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, 23 gentleness, self-control; against such things there is no law. 24 And those who belong to Christ Jesus have crucified the flesh with its passions and desires.

25 If we live by the Spirit, let us also keep in step with the Spirit. 26 Let us not become conceited, provoking one another, envying one another.

 

Reflection

  1. In this chapter, Paul moved from doctrine to practice. He taught that justification brought freedom for Christians while legalism bondage (v1-15). Genuine faith will bring good works, and  walking by the Spirit will lead not to gratifying the flesh (v16-21), and produce the fruit of the Spirit (v22-26).
  2. Having ruled out the Mosaic Law as a regulatory standard for Christian behavior, Paul proceeded to explain that the indwelling and transforming Holy Spirit now leads us, but we must be careful to follow His leading.
  3. Therefore, the life of discipleship, of following Jesus, and of holiness is not defined by what we do or not do.  It is characterized by vibrant, and robust living by the Spirit.  If we allow ourselves to be led by the Spirit, we are free to say no to the “desires of the flesh”.
  4. Have you ever asked the Holy Spirit for guidance when facing a problem?  What happened?  If you haven’t ever asked, try it today.  Watch and see if it changes your perception of the problem?

  1. 保羅在本章開始,從論述教義神學,轉為談論倫理的實踐;他申論因信稱義帶來基督徒的自由,而靠律法稱義則帶來轄制(1-15節)。而忠誠的信心,必然帶來善工,靠聖靈則不放縱肉體情慾(16-21節),並且結出聖靈的果子(22-26節)。

  1. 保羅在本段從責備轉為憐愛,他提醒加拉太的信徒當初如何愛保羅,以及他怎樣愛他們。第19節,保羅甚至以母親的角色來說明他如何甘願為他們靈命的緣故,重新再忍受生產的痛楚,使得基督在他們生命中成形——這就是保羅事奉的目標。然而,保羅栽種了……惟有神叫它生長(林前3:6)。
  2. 神使用我們生命中所有素材原料——包括環境、家庭、和性格——將我們塑造成為基督的樣式;這是基督按自己的形像在我們身上進行的工作。我們可以選擇繼續靠律法追求自我完美,終至疲憊失望;或者我們可以選擇倚靠聖靈,順從基督,讓基督的形像、品格、榮美在我們身上彰顯出來。
  3. 每一次你向主的呼求:“主啊,我屬你 / 主啊,救我 / 主啊,憐憫我 / 主啊,我感謝你 / 主啊,我愛你 ”,都表示你選擇倚靠聖靈。在過去一週中,你有多少次藉著這幾個簡短的禱告,向主說,也是向自己說,“我選擇倚靠聖靈,來渡過每天的生活”?

參考默想#2,教導孩子這五個簡短的禱告,並鼓勵他們隨時隨地都可以向神呼求。若孩子大些,可以將這五個禱告抄寫在家庭靈修簿內。

今日箴言21:5-8

殷勤人的籌劃必使他獲利;

  行事急躁的必致貧窮。

憑撒謊的舌頭得來的財寶,

  是飄蕩的浮雲、死亡的追尋。

惡人的暴行必拖累自己;

  因為他們不肯秉行公正。

罪人的道路充滿狡詐,

  清潔的人,行為正直。

 

260靈修 8月28日:加拉太書 第3章

無知的加拉太人哪!耶穌基督釘十字架,已經活現在你們眼前,誰又迷惑了你們呢? 我只想問你們這一點:你們接受了聖靈,是靠著行律法,還是因為信所聽見的福音呢? 你們是這樣的無知嗎?你們既然靠著聖靈開始,現在還要靠著肉體成全嗎? 你們受了這麼多的苦,都是白受的嗎?恐怕真是白受的了。 那麼, 神賜聖靈給你們,又在你們中間行神蹟,是因為你們行律法,還是因為你們信所聽見的福音呢? 正如亞伯拉罕信 神,這就算為他的義。

所以你們要知道,有信心的人,就是亞伯拉罕的子孫。 聖經既然預先看見 神要使外族人因信稱義,就預先把好信息傳給亞伯拉罕:“萬國都必因你得福。” 這樣看來,有信心的人,必定和有信心的亞伯拉罕一同得福。 10 凡是靠行律法稱義的,都在咒詛之下,因為經上記著:“凡不常常照著律法書上所寫的一切去行的,都被咒詛。” 11 很明顯,在 神面前,沒有一個人可以靠著律法稱義,因為“義人必因信得生”(“義人必因信得生”或譯:“因信稱義的人,必定得生”)。 12 律法本來不是出於信,而是說:“遵行這些事的人,就必因這些事而活。” 13 基督替我們受了咒詛,就救贖我們脫離了律法的咒詛,因為經上記著:“凡掛在木頭上的,都是受咒詛的。” 14 這樣,亞伯拉罕所蒙的福,就在耶穌基督裡臨到外族人,使我們因著信,可以領受所應許的聖靈。

 

默想

  1. 保羅接續上一章後面一段的論述,在本章中繼續解釋“因信稱義”的意義,他從加拉太信徒的經驗(1-5節),亞伯拉罕的實例,都表明救恩是單單來自信心,而不是來自行律法(6-14節)。律法從沒有廢棄神給人的應許(15-25節),在基督裡,信徒都成為神的兒女(26-29節)。
  2. 保羅提醒加拉太信徒,他們因信領受了聖靈,並非是因遵守律法而得的;但是他們仍然認為,單靠信心而得救太簡單了,因此希望有一些律法規條去遵守,才會覺得與神更加親近。讀經、祈禱,服事等屬靈操練,是可以幫助我們靈命成長,但是絕不能代替聖靈的工作。保羅向他們提出幾個尖銳的問題(1-4節),引導加拉太信徒重建以基督為中心的信仰。
  3. 你是否也會認為單靠信心的信仰不夠扎實?你認為你的信仰太簡單嗎?你是否認為,若是再多作些努力,才會對得救有更多的把握?仔細的思想一下這些問題,以及你的看法。
  4. 求神教導你願意讓神來主掌你的得救,並求神賜你“單純”的信心,而非“簡化——規條式”的信心。

孩童的得救:年幼的孩子也可以明白他若傷害了別人就會覺得難過(這就是悔改)。犯了錯需要得到饒恕,但是不能因為做得乖一點就可以得到(恩典),而是需要相信神來解救而不是依靠自己(信心),然後透過實際的行動來過有信心的生活,表達出對神以及對人的愛(逐漸改變的生命)。

父母們,祈求神教導你們利用這段話來肯定孩子的救恩,並鼓勵他過基督徒的生活。

 

今日箴言21:1-4

君王的心在耶和華手中,好像水溝的水,

  他可以隨意轉移。

人看自己一切所行的,都是正直的;

  耶和華卻衡量人心。

秉公行義,比獻祭更蒙耶和華悅納。

高傲的眼、傲慢的心,惡人的燈,都是罪惡。

260 Devotional, August 28, Galatians 3

1 O foolish Galatians! Who has bewitched you? It was before your eyes that Jesus Christ was publicly portrayed as crucified. Let me ask you only this: Did you receive the Spirit by works of the law or by hearing with faith? Are you so foolish? Having begun by the Spirit, are you now being perfected by the flesh? Did you suffer so many things in vain—if indeed it was in vain? Does he who supplies the Spirit to you and works miracles among you do so by works of the law, or by hearing with faith— just as Abraham “believed God, and it was counted to him as righteousness”?

Know then that it is those of faith who are the sons of Abraham. And the Scripture, foreseeing that God would justify the Gentiles by faith, preached the gospel beforehand to Abraham, saying, “In you shall all the nations be blessed.” So then, those who are of faith are blessed along with Abraham, the man of faith.

10 For all who rely on works of the law are under a curse; for it is written, “Cursed be everyone who does not abide by all things written in the Book of the Law, and do them.” 11 Now it is evident that no one is justified before God by the law, for “The righteous shall live by faith.” 12 But the law is not of faith, rather “The one who does them shall live by them.” 13 Christ redeemed us from the curse of the law by becoming a curse for us—for it is written, “Cursed is everyone who is hanged on a tree”— 14 so that in Christ Jesus the blessing of Abraham might come to the Gentiles, so that we might receive the promised Spirit through faith.

Reflection

  1. Continuing from the last part of Ch 2, Paul further developed the argument of Justification by faith alone.  He pointed out the Galatians’ own experience (v1-5) and Abraham’s example; they all demonstrated that salvation is by faith and not law (v6-14). Law never abandoned promise as the key to God’s dealings with man (v15-25) and in Christ believers become sons of God (v26-29).
  2. The Galatians had been taught that they had received the Holy Spirit by faith and not by obeying the law.  However, they still thought it was too simplistic to be saved by faith only.  They wanted to have some rules and creeds to follow in order to feel closer to God.  Spiritual exercises such as prayer and Bible reading as well as serving may help us grow spiritually but it can never replace the work of the Holy Spirit.  Paul raised some pointed questions (vv1-4), and tried to help them to restore Christ as the center of their faith.
  3. Do you think it not realistic to depend on faith alone for salvation?  Do you think your faith is too simplistic? Would you think that perhaps a bit more work on your part may bring more assurance? Stay at this point for a while.
  4. Pray that God would teach you to allow God to be in control of your salvation?  And pray for a “simple” but not “simplistic” faith in Him.

Prayer & Journaling:

Stay with God for a little longer.  Continue to converse with God and listen to what he wants to tell you.

If you have a prayer journal, as you listen to God, write down a few thoughts, questions, words, names, drawings, or anything that has come to your mind during this time.

 

Family Time (Begin this time by reading the passage above using a children’s Bible. If your children are younger, you may read 7-9 only.)

Salvation for Children:  A young child can understand being sorry for harming others (repentance); the need for forgiveness that cannot be earned by trying to be good (grace); trusting God to rescue them rather than relying on themselves (faith); and living life in that trust through actions that express love for God and for people (life being transformed).

Proverbs for Today 21:1-4

The king’s heart is a stream of water in the hand of the Lord;
    he turns it wherever he will.
Every way of a man is right in his own eyes,
    but the Lord weighs the heart.
To do righteousness and justice
    is more acceptable to the Lord than sacrifice.
Haughty eyes and a proud heart,
    the lamp of the wicked, are sin.

260靈修 8月27日:加拉太書 第2章

15 我們生來是猶太人,不是外族中的罪人; 16 既然知道人稱義不是靠行律法,而是因信耶穌基督,我們也就信了基督耶穌,使我們因信基督稱義,不是靠行律法;因為沒有人能靠行律法稱義。 17 如果我們尋求在基督裡稱義,卻仍然是罪人,難道基督是使人犯罪的嗎?絕對不是。 18 我若重建我所拆毀的,就證明自己是個有過犯的人。 19 我藉著律法已經向律法死了,使我可以向 神活著。 20 我已經與基督同釘十字架;現在活著的,不再是我,而是基督活在我裡面;如今在肉身中活著的我,是因信 神的兒子而活的;他愛我,為我捨己。 21 我不廢棄 神的恩;如果義是藉著律法而來的,基督就白白地死了。

 

默想

  1. 保羅報告了他第二次去耶路撒冷,並由使徒證實他所傳的福音是正確的(1-10節);然後他為維護正確的福音責備彼得,藉由申論猶太人和外邦人都是因信基督而稱義,說明靠行律法稱義的人,就是否定基督的受苦和受死,乃是拒絕上帝的救恩。而人唯獨靠基督稱義,並且稱義之後,能結出稱義的果子,也就是善工(11-21節)。
  2. 有許多人經常到處求籤拜佛、刻苦修身、施善積功,盼得心想事成、萬事順意。一首通俗聖誕節的歌,說道:聖誕老人會“再三查看他的名單,要知道誰頑皮,誰聽話”,才能在聖誕節收到禮物。究竟這兩種接受禮物的心態有什麼異同?如果聖誕老人是真實的,并且有個送禮物的名單,而你的名字也在其中,聖誕老人會按什麼條件來決定你能不能收到禮物?盡量寫下你認為會有的各種得禮物的條件。
  3. 思想這節經文:“人稱義不是因行律法,乃是因信耶穌基督”(16節),耶穌贈送的救恩禮物與上面兩者贈送的條件有何不同?把剛才寫上各種條件的那張紙帶到神的面前,針對逐項條件,感謝主白白的救恩;將這張紙撕去丟掉;再一次感謝神,因祂不需要你做任何的努力,就可以得到祂所賜下的各樣恩典禮物。

參照默想的問題#2,#3,並討論 “Santa Claus is coming to town”這首通俗的聖誕歌的歌詞,特別留意“He’s making a list and checking it twice” 這句話。這是個很好的機會向你的兒女解釋神給我們的白白救恩。若孩子願意接受耶穌,幫助他作這個決定,並與他禱告。將這個決定記錄在家庭靈修簿內。

28 慈愛和信實保護君王,
