Chapter 4
2 In that day the Branch of the LORD will be beautiful and glorious, and
the fruit of the land will be the pride and glory of the survivors in Israel. 3
Those who are left in Zion, who remain in Jerusalem, will be called holy,
all who are recorded among the living in Jerusalem.4 The Lord will wash
away the filth of the women of Zion; he will cleanse the bloodstains from
Jerusalem by a spirit of judgment and a spirit of fire. 5 Then the LORD
will create over all of Mount Zion and over those who assemble there a
cloud of smoke by day and a glow of flaming fire by night; over everything
the glory will be a canopy. 6 It will be a shelter and shade from the
heat of the day, and a refuge and hiding place from the storm and rain.

Meditation
1.This chapter issues the hope for those survive God’s punishment
upon Judah and Jerusalem. For after God’s judgment has removed
sinners and purified survivors, a cleansed and holy Jerusalem will
serve as a shelter and shade for people.

2.But this will only be accomplished by a person called “the Branch
of the Lord’. This is referred to Messiah who is to come from
David’s family line and to accomplish the ultimate deliverance of
the Jews and all humankind.

3.Therefore, God’s ideal surely will be achieved but it is more than
we can accomplish in our own strength. God Himself has acted
in Christ to make it possible for you and me to walk in the light of
the Lord. We are His new creation. All we can do is to honour the
Lord by living righteous lives, however dark the ways of this present
world.

Prayer & Journaling: Stay with God for a little longer. Continue to converse
with God and listen to what he wants to tell me. Then write down
any thought and/or prayer in the 2012 “Spiritual Journal” book.

Chapter 3
16 The LORD says, “The women of Zion are haughty, walking along with
outstretched necks, flirting with their eyes, strutting along with swaying
hips, with ornaments jingling on their ankles.17 Therefore the Lord will
bring sores on the heads of the women of Zion;the LORD will make their
scalps bald. ”18 In that day the Lord will snatch away their finery: the bangles
and headbands and crescent necklaces, 19 the earrings and bracelets
and veils, 20 the headdresses and anklets and sashes, the perfume bottles
and charms, 21 the signet rings and nose rings, 22 the fine robes and the
capes and cloaks, the purses 23 and mirrors, and the linen garments and
tiaras and shawls.24 Instead of fragrance there will be a stench; instead of
a sash, a rope;instead of well-dressed hair, baldness; instead of fine clothing,
sackcloth; instead of beauty, branding. 25 Your men will fall by the
sword, your warriors in battle.26 The gates of Zion will lament and mourn;
destitute, she will sit on the ground.

Meditation
1.This passage describes vividly the dismay and demise that come
when life is out of sync with the will of the sovereign God. It
reminds us that people who refuse to walk in the light of the Lord
will not prosper.

2.How do you see the haughty, self-centered attitudes reflected in men
and women around you? How does their idea of beauty compare
with that of 1 Peter 3:3-4? Do you think such inner beauty applies
to men, as well?

3.How have you tried to develop this inner beauty on your own? How
has God’s discipline of you led to growth and purity?

Prayer & Journaling: Stay with God for a little longer. Continue to converse
with God and listen to what he wants to tell me. Then write down
any thought and/or prayer in the 2012 “Spiritual Journal” book.

的橡樹;14 又臨到一切高山的峻嶺;15 又臨到高台和堅固城牆;

Chapter2
10 Go into the rocks, hide in the ground from the fearful presence of the
LORD and the splendor of his majesty!11 The eyes of the arrogant will be
humbled and human pride brought low; the LORD alone will be exalted
in that day.12 The LORD Almighty has a day in store for all the proud and
lofty, for all that is exalted (and they will be humbled), 13 for all the cedars
of Lebanon, tall and lofty, and all the oaks of Bashan, 14 for all the towering
mountains and all the high hills, 15 for every lofty tower and every
fortified wall, 16 for every trading ship and every stately vessel.
17 The arrogance of man will be brought low and human pride humbled;
the LORD alone will be exalted in that day, 18 and the idols will totally disappear.
19 People will flee to caves in the rocks and to holes in the ground
from the fearful presence of the LORD and the splendor of his majesty,
when he rises to shake the earth.20 In that day people will throw away to
the moles and bats their idols of silver and idols of gold, which they made
to worship.21 They will flee to caverns in the rocks and to the overhanging
crags from the fearful presence of the LORD and the splendor of his
majesty, when he rises to shake the earth.22 Stop trusting in mere humans,
who have but a breath in their nostrils. Why hold them in esteem?

Meditation
1.This passage mentions a number of great things (natural or humanmade)
which the Israelites must have been boastful of. Yet, Isaiah
warned his fellow countrymen that God would act to judge the arrogant
people by bringing low these great things among them in the
day when the splendor of God’s majesty is revealed.

2.Isaiah prophesied that on the Day of the Lord, the pride of men will
be no more. We know that arrogance is not a desirable trait, yet
many of us fall victim to our own arrogance.

3.Ask God to teach you what it means to stop trusting in humanity
(v22) and to only rely on God.

Prayer & Journaling: Stay with God for a little longer. Continue to converse
with God and listen to what he wants to tell me. Then write down
any thought and/or prayer in the 2012 “Spiritual Journal” book.

Chapter 1
10Hear the word of the LORD, rulers of Sodom; listen to the instruction of
our God, you people of Gomorrah!11 “The multitude of your sacrifices—
what are they to me?” says the LORD. “I have more than enough of burnt
offerings, of rams and the fat of fattened animals; I have no pleasure in the
blood of bulls and lambs and goats.12When you come to appear before
me, who has asked this of you, this trampling of my courts?13 Stop bringing
meaningless offerings! Your incense is detestable to me. New Moons,
Sabbaths and convocations —I cannot bear your worthless assemblies.
14 Your New Moon feasts and your appointed festival I hate with all my
being. They have become a burden to me; I am weary of bearing them.
15 When you spread out your hands in prayer, I hide my eyes from you;
even when you offer many prayers, I am not listening. Your hands are full
of blood!16 Wash and make yourselves clean. Take your evil deeds out
of my sight; stop doing wrong.17 Learn to do right; seek justice. Defend
the oppressed. Take up the cause of the fatherless; plead the case of the
widow.

Meditation:
1.Isaiah described a religious people whose ritual seems to be according
to the law. These people went up to the temple dutifully for the
required festivals; they offered sacrifices correctly, made long and
impressive prayers. But God called all these meaningless. They
seem to believe that following rituals will guarantee God’s blessings.
But God totally rejected it.

2.The people were, instead, summoned to obedience, focusing particularly
on justice toward the oppressed, widows, and orphans,
people who are vulnerable and without social protection.

3.The point is that a real and vital faith is not that we appear and do
right, but that our relationship with God has produced righteousness.

4.Is your involvement in church activities, or prayer has become
empty ritual, or do you serve the Lord from a heart of love and
devotion?

Prayer & Journaling: Stay with God for a little longer. Continue to converse
with God and listen to what he wants to tell me. Then write down
any thought and/or prayer in the 2012 “Spiritual Journal” book.

Chapter 41
1 Blessed are those who have regard for the weak; the LORD delivers
them in times of trouble.
2 The LORD protects and preserves them— they are counted among the
blessed in the land— he does not give them over to the desire of their foes.
3 The LORD sustains them on their sickbed and restores them from their
bed of illness.
4 I said, “Have mercy on me, LORD; heal me, for I have sinned against you.”
5 My enemies say of me in malice, “When will he die and his name perish? ”
6 When one of them comes to see me, he speaks falsely, while his heart
gathers slander; then he goes out and spreads it around.
7 All my enemies whisper together against me; they imagine the worst
for me, saying, 8 “A vile disease has afflicted him; he will never get up
from the place where he lies.”
9 Even my close friend, someone I trusted, one who shared my bread,
has turned against me.
10 But may you have mercy on me, LORD; raise me up, that I may repay them.
11 I know that you are pleased with me, for my enemy does not triumph over me.
12 Because of my integrity you uphold me and set me in your presence forever.
13 Praise be to the LORD, the God of Israel, from everlasting to everlasting.
Amen and Amen.

Meditation
1. This song is David’s prayer for mercy when he was seriously ill.
He expresses his confidence that those who care for the weak will
be cared for in their own weakness.

2. From his past experiences, David concluded that even though everyone
else, including our close friends, may abandon us when we
most need their support, God will never give up on us.

3. Praise God for his love and mercy that never gives up on you.

Prayer & Journaling:
Stay with God for a little longer. Continue to converse with God and listen
to what he wants to tell me. Then write down any thought and/or prayer
in the 2012 “Spiritual Journal” book.

Chapter 40
1 I waited patiently for the LORD; he turned to me and heard my cry.
2 He lifted me out of the slimy pit, out of the mud and mire; he set my
feet on a rock and gave me a firm place to stand.
3 He put a new song in my mouth, a hymn of praise to our God. Many
will see and fear the LORD and put their trust in him.
4 Blessed is the one who trusts in the LORD, who does not look to the
proud, to those who turn aside to false gods.
5 Many, LORD my God, are the wonders you have done, the things you
planned for us. None can compare with you; were I to speak and
tell of your deeds, they would be too many to declare.
6 Sacrifice and offering you did not desire— but my ears you have
opened— burnt offerings and sin offerings you did not require.
7 Then I said, “Here I am, I have come— it is written about me in the scroll.
8 I desire to do your will, my God; your law is within my heart.”
9 I proclaim your saving acts in the great assembly; I do not seal my lips,
LORD, as you know.
10 I do not hide your righteousness in my heart; I speak of your faithfulness
and your saving help. I do not conceal your love and your faithfulness
from the great assembly.

Meditation
1. This song is a prayer for help when troubles abound. It is also a celebration
of God’s mercy in times of need. It begins with praise of
God for his past mercies (vv1-5) and a testimony to the kings’ own
faithfulness to the Lord (vv6-10). The rest of the song is a prayer
for help.

2. In your own times of need, when God seems to take too long to
help you, what “false gods” (v4) offer tempting alternative solutions
to you? What happened the last time you relied on one of
those “gods”?

3. What in your life feels like a “slimy pit”? (v2) Which helps you
most with present troubles: remembering God’s actions in the past?
Or claiming God’s promises for the future? Why?

Prayer & Journaling:
Stay with God for a little longer. Continue to converse with God and listen
to what he wants to tell me. Then write down any thought and/or prayer
in the 2012 “Spiritual Journal” book.

Chapter 39
1 I said, “I will watch my ways and keep my tongue from sin; I will put a
muzzle on my mouth while in the presence of the wicked.”
2 So I remained utterly silent, not even saying anything good. But my
anguish increased;
3 my heart grew hot within me. While I meditated, the fire burned; then
I spoke with my tongue:
4 “Show me, LORD, my life’s end and the number of my days; let me
know how fleeting my life is.
5 You have made my days a mere handbreadth; the span of my years is
as nothing before you. Everyone is but a breath, even those who seem secure.
6 “Surely everyone goes around like a mere phantom; in vain they rush
about, heaping up wealth without knowing whose it will finally be.
7 “But now, Lord, what do I look for? My hope is in you.
8 Save me from all my transgressions; do not make me the scorn of fools.
9 I was silent; I would not open my mouth, for you are the one who has
done this.
10 Remove your scourge from me; I am overcome by the blow of your hand.
11 When you rebuke and discipline anyone for their sin, you consume
their wealth like a moth — surely everyone is but a breath.
12 “Hear my prayer, LORD, listen to my cry for help; do not be deaf to
my weeping. I dwell with you as a foreigner, a stranger, as all my
ancestors were.
13 Look away from me, that I may enjoy life again before I depart and
am no more.”

Meditation
1. The psalmist was wrestling with a lot of anguished questions: life is
so fragile, so short, like a puff of air, a passing shadow. How long
do I have? What does it mean anyway? (v6) Can’t you back off a
bit, God? (vv10, 13). But then the singer also has hope in God (v7)
and continues to seek deliverance from sin (v8).

2. “I am silent; I do not open my mouth…”(v9) ushers an invitation
for us to be SILENT before God to close “off our souls from
‘sounds’, whether noise, music, or words, so that we may better still
the inner chatter and clatter of our noisy hearts and be increasingly
attentive to God”.

3. Plan to have a Silent Date with God today or this week. Share your
experience with your group.

Chapter 38
15 LORD, I wait for you; you will answer, Lord my God.
16 For I said, “Do not let them gloat or exalt themselves over me when
my feet slip.”
17 For I am about to fall, and my pain is ever with me.
18 I confess my iniquity; I am troubled by my sin.
19 Many have become my enemies without cause; those who hate me
without reason are numerous.
20 Those who repay my good with evil lodge accusations against me,
though I seek only to do what is good.
21 LORD, do not forsake me; do not be far from me, my God.
22 Come quickly to help me, my Lord and my Savior.

Meditation
1. Both Old and New testaments tell us that the Lord disciplines those
he loves. David, knowing that he was being disciplined by God,
felt wounded, weak, crushed, filled with searing pain. Rather than
trying to hide, or find excuses, or blames, David came to God with
his pain! Like a little child who turns to mommy for a hug after
being spanked, we are to turn to God with arms held out. When we
do, God , like any loving parent, will takes us up in his arms and
comforts us.

2. Despite the fact that David realized he was being disciplined for
sin, he was confident that God would answer his plea. How could
he be so sure? He said, “I confess my iniquity; I am troubled by my
sin” (v18).

3. David understood what 1 John 1:9 conveys to us as a promise: “If
we confess our sins, he is faithful and just and will forgive us.”

4. When have you experienced pain that was at least partly your fault?
How did you handle it? What can you learn from David’s example?

3 你當倚靠耶和華而行善,住在地上,以他的信實為糧;

Chapter 37
1 Do not fret because of those who are evil or be envious of those who
do wrong;
2 for like the grass they will soon wither, like green plants they will soon
die away.
3 Trust in the LORD and do good; dwell in the land and enjoy safe pasq ture.
4 Take delight in the LORD, and he will give you the desires of your heart.
5 Commit your way to the LORD; trust in him and he will do this:
6 He will make your righteous reward shine like the dawn, your
vindication like the noonday sun.
7 Be still before the LORD and wait patiently for him; do not fret when
people succeed in their ways, when they carry out their wicked schemes.
8 Refrain from anger and turn from wrath; do not fret —it leads only to evil.
9 For those who are evil will be destroyed, but those who hope in the
LORD will inherit the land.
10 A little while, and the wicked will be no more; though you look for
them, they will not be found.
11 But the meek will inherit the land and enjoy peace and prosperity.

Meditation
1. We often think: “Do good and prosper, ignore God and fail”. But
this often doesn’t work, and we wonder why good things happen to
bad people. The psalmist says not to worry about it. God will take
care of them soon enough.

2. Instead of fretting, we should trust, even “delight” in God who will
protect and provide generously for those who do.

3. How do you secretly want to see happen to those who do evil and
enjoy momentary success? How would their success and your
reaction to it make you feel about God, about yourself and those
people? Are you focused on success here in this world, or on storing
up treasures in heaven?

4. Talk with God and tell him your emotions right now. Then listen to
God’s response.

Prayer & Journaling:
Stay with God for a little longer. Continue to converse with God and listen
to what he wants to tell me. Then write down any thought and/or prayer
in the 2012 “Spiritual Journal” book.

Chapter 36
1 I have a message from God in my heart concerning the sinfulness of
the wicked: There is no fear of God before their eyes.
2 In their own eyes they flatter themselves too much to detect or hate
their sin.
3 The words of their mouths are wicked and deceitful; they fail to act
wisely or do good.
4 Even on their beds they plot evil; they commit themselves to a sinful
course and do not reject what is wrong.
5 Your love, LORD, reaches to the heavens, your faithfulness to the
skies.
6 Your righteousness is like the highest mountains, your justice like the
great deep. You, LORD, preserve both people and animals.
7 How priceless is your unfailing love, O God! People take refuge in the
shadow of your wings.
8 They feast on the abundance of your house; you give them drink from
your river of delights.
9 For with you is the fountain of life; in your light we see light.
10 Continue your love to those who know you, your righteousness to the
upright in heart.
11 May the foot of the proud not come against me, nor the hand of the
wicked drive me away.
12 See how the evildoers lie fallen— thrown down, not able to rise!

Meditation
1. In the Psalms, the “righteous” seem to be those who may do evil but
are generally seeking to please God. The “wicked” are those who,
despite good they may do, are generally rejecting God’s ways.

2. David was completely convinced that evildoers will be “thrown
down” by the Lord (v12).

3. David’s conviction that the wicked must fail rested squarely on his
understanding of who God is. He is assured that God will judge the
wicked and continue to display love toward those who know him.

4. What have you tasted of God’s “feast” recently? How has he refreshed
or enlivened you?

Prayer & Journaling:
Stay with God for a little longer. Continue to converse with God and listen

Chapter 35
1 Contend, LORD, with those who contend with me; fight against those
who fight against me.
2 Take up shield and armor; arise and come to my aid.
3 Brandish spear and javelin against those who pursue me. Say to me, “I
am your salvation. ”
4 May those who seek my life be disgraced and put to shame; may those
who plot my ruin be turned back in dismay.
5 May they be like chaff before the wind, with the angel of the LORD
driving them away; 6 may their path be dark and slippery, with the angel
of the LORD pursuing them.
7 Since they hid their net for me without cause and without cause dug a
pit for me,
8 may ruin overtake them by surprise— may the net they hid entangle
them, may they fall into the pit, to their ruin.
9 Then my soul will rejoice in the LORD and delight in his salvation.
10 My whole being will exclaim, “Who is like you, LORD? You rescue
the poor from those too strong for them, the poor and needy from those
who rob them.”

Meditation
1. When the psalmist feels hurt, the anger pours forth in an eloquent
torrent. There is no sense of “I’m not supposed to feel this way.”
Christian maturity is not about reducing the highs and lows of emotions
to a level plane, but of feeling deeply in a godly way.

2. How do you respond when people treat you unfairly? In what situation
do you wish the Lord would fight for you?

3. We may not feel gracious toward those who hurt us, but we choose
to act that way, not from feelings but from obedience to Jesus Christ.
Who do you feel hostility and anger toward?

4. Ask God to bless those who have hurt you.

Prayer & Journaling:
Stay with God for a little longer. Continue to converse with God and listen
to what he wants to tell me. Then write down any thought and/or prayer

Chapter 34
8 Taste and see that the LORD is good; blessed is the one who takes
refuge in him.
9 Fear the LORD, you his holy people, for those who fear him lack nothing.
10 The lions may grow weak and hungry, but those who seek the LORD
lack no good thing.
11 Come, my children, listen to me; I will teach you the fear of the LORD.
12 Whoever of you loves life and desires to see many good days,
13 keep your tongue from evil and your lips from telling lies.
14 Turn from evil and do good; seek peace and pursue it.
15 The eyes of the LORD are on the righteous, and his ears are attentive
to heir cry; 16 but the face of the LORD is against those who do evil,
to blot out their name from the earth.
17 The righteous cry out, and the LORD hears them; he delivers them
from all their troubles.
18 The LORD is close to the brokenhearted and saves those who are
crushed in spirit.
19 The righteous person may have many troubles, but the LORD delivers
him from them all; 20 he protects all his bones, not one of them will
be broken.

Meditation
1. It assaults our pride to acknowledge that there are things we don’t
know or problems we can’t overcome. But when we stop trying to
do it ourselves, we are in a position to receive the help God sends.

2. “Taste and see”, the psalmist invites us to experience God’s goodness
for ourselves. Let us commit ourselves to doing what is right.
We may act foolishly at times, but if we are dedicated to pleasing
God, we can trust the Lord to deliver us.

3. Ask God to increase your ability to “taste and see” that he is with
you and that he is good.

Prayer & Journaling:
Stay with God for a little longer. Continue to converse with God and listen
to what he wants to tell me. Then write down any thought and/or prayer
in the 2012 “Spiritual Journal” book.

13 耶和華從天上觀看,他看見一切的世人;

Chapter 33
12 Blessed is the nation whose God is the LORD, the people he chose for
his inheritance.
13 From heaven the LORD looks down and sees all mankind; 14 from
his dwelling place he watches all who live on earth—15 he
who forms the hearts of all, who considers everything they do.
16 No king is saved by the size of his army; no warrior escapes by
his great strength.
17 A horse is a vain hope for deliverance; despite all its great strength it
cannot save.
18 But the eyes of the LORD are on those who fear him, on those whose
hope is in his unfailing love, 19 to deliver them from death and keep
them alive in famine.
20 We wait in hope for the LORD; he is our help and our shield.
21 In him our hearts rejoice, for we trust in his holy name.
22 May your unfailing love be with us, LORD, even as we put our hope
in you.

Meditation
1. This psalm gives a big picture of God. Israel’s God has power over
all creation. Because the Lord is the creator, who by his power imposed
his order on the creation, no power or combination of powers
can thwart his plan and purpose to save his people. Men cannot
be saved apart from God. And God watches over “those who fear
him”.

2. Imagine that God watched you conduct your day from beginning to
end. What would he see about your actions? How do they express
your priorities, values and commitments?

3. What hopes for success do you have that are misdirected? (Consider
whether you put your trust in your skills, your background,
your education, your intelligence, your money, your influence, your
friends . . . or a thousand other things.)

4. After you have identified your false hopes, turn them over to God.
Ask him to take them from you.

Chapter 32
1 Blessed is the one whose transgressions are forgiven, whose sins are
covered.
2 Blessed is the one whose sin the LORD does not count against them
and in whose spirit is no deceit.
3 When I kept silent, my bones wasted away through my groaning all
day long.
4 For day and night your hand was heavy on me; my strength was sapped
as in the heat of summer.
5 Then I acknowledged my sin to you and did not cover up my iniquity.
I said, “I will confess my transgressions to the LORD.” And you
forgave the guilt of my sin.
6 Therefore let all the faithful pray to you while you may be found;
surely the rising of the mighty waters will not reach them.
7 You are my hiding place; you will protect me from trouble and sur
round me with songs of deliverance.
8 I will instruct you and teach you in the way you should go; I will
counsel you with my loving eye on you.
9 Do not be like the horse or the mule, which have no understanding but
must be controlled by bit and bridle or they will not come to you.
10 Many are the woes of the wicked, but the LORD’s unfailing love sur
rounds the one who trusts in him.
11 Rejoice in the LORD and be glad, you righteous; sing, all you who
are upright in heart!

Meditation
1. Owning up when we do something wrong really hurts. There’s
the shame, the embarrassment the fear of punishment, the sense of
vulnerability.

2. Yet, David affirms that the forgiven man is blessed. Unconfessed
sin distorts our relationship with the Lord. But when we acknowledge
our sin, He not only forgives us, He restores us to intimate
fellowship with Him. Once again He leads us in His ways. No
wonder David, his restoration now complete, cried out in joy and
gladness at this psalm’s end.

3. Consider whether there are things sins in the past for which you are
guilty but have never sought forgiveness. Name those things. Ask
God’s forgiveness for what you have done wrong, and experience
his grace. Pray for wisdom and courage to ask forgiveness from the
person you’ve wronged.

Prayer & Journaling:
Stay with God for a little longer. Continue to converse with God and listen
to what he wants to tell me. Then write down any thought and/or prayer
in the 2012 “Spiritual Journal” book.

Chapter 31
14 But I trust in you, LORD; I say, “You are my God.”
15 My times are in your hands; deliver me from the hands of my
enemies, from those who pursue me.
16 Let your face shine on your servant; save me in your unfailing love.
17 Let me not be put to shame, LORD, for I have cried out to you; but let
the wicked be put to shame and be silent in the realm of the dead.
18 Let their lying lips be silenced, for with pride and contempt they
speak arrogantly against the righteous.
19 How abundant are the good things that you have stored up for those
who fear you, that you bestow in the sight of all, on those who take
refuge in you.
20 In the shelter of your presence you hide them from all human
intrigues; you keep them safe in your dwelling from accusing tongues.

Meditation
1. The first half of the psalm (v1-13) described David being pursued
by armies led by King Saul. At times, his situation seemed hopeless,
and he was gripped by despair. Yet David found grace to say,
“I trust in you”(v14) and “my times are in your hands”(v15).

2. This is perhaps the greatest challenge we face when hard-pressed.
We want relief now. We don’t want to wait. Yet our times as well
as we ourselves are in God’s hands. Until God acts, we must find
grace to wait, holding tight to God as our refuge.

3. God is good and we can be sure that He has goodness stored up for
us who fear Him. For now, we are safe. In the future, we will be
doubly blessed.

4. How would you make this statement, “My times are in your hands”
(v15), a reality in your life? What does it actually mean to you
when faced with troubles and difficulties?

Prayer & Journaling:
Stay with God for a little longer. Continue to converse with God and listen
to what he wants to tell me. Then write down any thought and/or prayer
in the 2012 “Spiritual Journal” book.

Chapter 30
1 I will exalt you, LORD, for you lifted me out of the depths and did not
let my enemies gloat over me.
2 LORD my God, I called to you for help, and you healed me.
3 You, LORD, brought me up from the realm of the dead; you spared me
from going down to the pit.
4 Sing the praises of the LORD, you his faithful people; praise his holy
name.
5 For his anger lasts only a moment, but his favor lasts a lifetime;
weeping may stay for the night, but rejoicing comes in the morning.
6 When I felt secure, I said, “I will never be shaken.”
7 LORD, when you favored me, you made my royal mountain stand
firm; but when you hid your face, I was dismayed.
8 To you, LORD, I called; to the Lord I cried for mercy:
9 “What is gained if I am silenced, if I go down to the pit? Will the dust
praise you? Will it proclaim your faithfulness?
10 Hear, LORD, and be merciful to me; LORD, be my help. ”
11 You turned my wailing into dancing; you removed my sackcloth and
clothed me with joy, 12 that my heart may sing your praises and not be
silent. LORD my God, I will praise you forever.

Meditation
1. David praised God here for a physical healing (v 2). God also
hears the cries of the penitent for mercy, and makes it possible for
us to give God thanks forever (v12). It gives us great comfort to
know that God is one whose “anger lasts only a moment, but his
favor lasts a lifetime.” Therefore, while “weeping may remain for a
night,” we can be sure that “rejoicing comes in the morning.”(v5)

2. David expresses some of the ups and downs of his life. Consider
Reflect over the last six months to a year of your life and chart
write down a list of your ups and downs. Picture the Lord with you
through the ups and downs of your life. How does it help you to
know God is with you?

3. Give thanks to God for the ways he has been a help to you in the
hard places of your life.

Prayer & Journaling:
Stay with God for a little longer. Continue to converse with God and listen
to what he wants to tell me. Then write down any thought and/or prayer
in the 2012 “Spiritual Journal” book.

Chapter 29
1 Ascribe to the LORD, you heavenly beings, ascribe to the LORD glory
and strength.
2 Ascribe to the LORD the glory due his name; worship the LORD in the
splendor of his holiness.
3 The voice of the LORD is over the waters; the God of glory thunders,
the LORD thunders over the mighty waters.
4 The voice of the LORD is powerful; the voice of the LORD is majestic.
5 The voice of the LORD breaks the cedars; the LORD breaks in pieces
the cedars of Lebanon.
6 He makes Lebanon leap like a calf, Sirion like a young wild ox.
7 The voice of the LORD strikes with flashes of lightning.
8 The voice of the LORD shakes the desert; the LORD shakes the Desert
of Kadesh.
9 The voice of the LORD twists the oaks and strips the forests bare. And
in his temple all cry, “Glory!”
10 The LORD sits enthroned over the flood; the LORD is enthroned as
King forever.
11 The LORD gives strength to his people; the LORD blesses his people
with peace.

Meditation
1. Most of Psalm 29 describes the actions of God as a mighty and
powerful rainstorm, inspiring not only awe, but even fear.

2. Sometimes God uses a storm to draw our attention to him and cause
us to fall before him in awe and fear, but he also “blesses his people
with peace.”

3. What storm(s)s blows through your life now or has blown through
your life recently? Are you responding like David – giving glory to
God for ruling over the storm? Or are you like nature – in uproar?
Why?

Prayer & Journaling:
Stay with God for a little longer. Continue to converse with God and listen
to what he wants to tell me. Then write down any thought and/or prayer
in the 2012 “Spiritual Journal” book.

Chapter 28
1 To you, LORD, I call; you are my Rock, do not turn a deaf ear to me.
For if you remain silent, I will be like those who go down to the pit.
2 Hear my cry for mercy as I call to you for help, as I lift up my hands
toward your Most Holy Place.
3 Do not drag me away with the wicked, with those who do evil, who
speak cordially with their neighbors but harbor malice in their hearts.
4 Repay them for their deeds and for their evil work; repay them for what
their hands have done and bring back on them what they deserve.
5 Because they have no regard for the deeds of the LORD and what his
hands have done, he will tear them down and never build them up again.
6 Praise be to the LORD, for he has heard my cry for mercy.
7 The LORD is my strength and my shield; my heart trusts in him, and
he helps me. My heart leaps for joy, and with my song I praise him.
8 The LORD is the strength of his people, a fortress of salvation for his
anointed one.
9 Save your people and bless your inheritance; be their shepherd and
carry them forever.

Meditation
1. There are times when our prayers seem futile, launched toward a
dull and silent heaven. God seems indifferent, willing to let us be
dragged away with the wicked. Even at times like these, we are to
remember that “the Lord is”.

2. As David remembered who God is, he was able to trust in Him to
receive help (vv7-8). The circumstances had not changed, but suddenly
David found his heart leaping with unexplained joy.

3. When have you been as desperate as David (vv1-5)? As confident
at David (vv6-7)? Read through this psalm a few times slowly.
Pray as you read it, pause when something phrase catches your attention.
Listen to what God is trying to speak to you about your
present situations.

Prayer & Journaling:
Stay with God for a little longer. Continue to converse with God and listen
to what he wants to tell me. Then write down any thought and/or prayer
in the 2012 “Spiritual Journal” book.

Chapter2 7
1 The LORD is my light and my salvation — whom shall I fear? The
LORD is the stronghold of my life— of whom shall I be afraid?
2 When the wicked advance against me to devour me, it is my enemies
and my foes who will stumble and fall.
3 Though an army besiege me, my heart will not fear; though war break
out against me, even then I will be confident.
4 One thing I ask from the LORD, this only do I seek: that I may dwell in
the house of the LORD all the days of my life, to gaze on the beauty of
the LORD and to seek him in his temple.
5 For in the day of trouble he will keep me safe in his dwelling; he will
hide me in the shelter of his sacred tent and set me high upon a rock.
6 Then my head will be exalted above the enemies who surround me; at
his sacred tent I will sacrifice with shouts of joy; I will sing and
make music to the LORD.

Meditation
1. “One thing I ask from the Lord” (v4). How many things have you
asked God for? A hundred, a thousand things? We all have prayed
and asked God for many things from the simple to the serious. Yet,
the psalmist asked for only ONE thing.

2. Here is a person who has discovered the immensity, the attractiveness,
and the accessibility of God. He desires one thing, but
it’s expressed in three ways, to live in the house of the Lord, to
gaze(contemplate) on the beauty of the Lord, and to seek (study)
him in his temple.

3. This single desire that absorbs all other desires is to be where God
is, to see what he reveals, and to learn what he teaches. The trouble
the psalmist faced didn’t drive him into trying every solution
the world offersthing in hopes that something might turn up that
worked. His troubles drove him to one thing: to God.

4. Read this passage again slowly as your own prayer and plead to
God. How does it feel to ask God for the one single request? What
does that mean to you?

Prayer & Journaling:
Stay with God for a little longer. Continue to converse with God and listen
to what he wants to tell me. Then write down any thought and/or prayer
in the 2012 “Spiritual Journal” book.

2 耶和華啊,求你察看我,試驗我,熬煉我的肺腑心腸;
4 我沒有和虛謊人同坐,也不與瞞哄人的同群;
6 耶和華啊,我要洗手表明無辜,才環繞你的祭壇;

Psalms 26
1 Vindicate me, LORD, for I have led a blameless life; I have trusted in
the LORD and have not faltered.
2 Test me, LORD, and try me, examine my heart and my mind; 3 for I
have always been mindful of your unfailing love and have lived in
reliance on your faithfulness.
4 I do not sit with the deceitful, nor do I associate with hypocrites.
5 I abhor the assembly of evildoers and refuse to sit with the wicked.
6 I wash my hands in innocence, and go about your altar, LORD,
7 proclaiming aloud your praise and telling of all your wonderful deeds.
8 LORD, I love the house where you live, the place where your glory dwells.
9 Do not take away my soul along with sinners, my life with those who
are bloodthirsty, 10 in whose hands are wicked schemes, whose right
hands are full of bribes.
11 I lead a blameless life; deliver me and be merciful to me.
12 My feet stand on level ground; in the great congregation I will praise
the LORD.

Meditation:
1. The “blameless” life is not life without sin. It was a deep inner
dedication to God that found expression in a godly way of life. It
is rooted in the habits of faithfulness (vv3-5, 11; ref Ps 1) rather
than momentary piety. It is the life of a person who seriously seeks
God. and This life reflects the humble, yet confident, peace;. They
despises evil and embraces godliness. The persony worships God
and delights in a closer “walk” with the Lord. He/she They delights
in coming to God’s house for worship and praise.

2. This life is marked by unwavering trust in God (v1), and by constant
love for him (v3). It is expressed by daily obedience to God’s
truth (v3), with rejection of the wicked as well as wickedness (vv4-
5). And he loves coming to God’s house to worship and praise
(vv6-8). How does you life compare?

3. Ask God to help you to live a “blameless” life.

Chapter 25
1 In you, LORD my God, I put my trust.
2 I trust in you; do not let me be put to shame, nor let my enemies
triumph over me.
3 No one who hopes in you will ever be put to shame,
but shame will come on those who are treacherous without cause.
4 Show me your ways, LORD, teach me your paths.
5 Guide me in your truth and teach me, for you are God my Savior,
and my hope is in you all day long.
6 Remember, LORD, your great mercy and love, for they are from of old.
7 Do not remember the sins of my youth and my rebellious ways;
according to your love remember me, for you, LORD, are good.
8 Good and upright is the LORD; therefore he instructs sinners in his ways.
9 He guides the humble in what is right and teaches them his way.
10 All the ways of the LORD are loving and faithful
toward those who keep the demands of his covenant.
11 For the sake of your name, LORD, forgive my iniquity, though it is great.

Meditation
1. What can we expect from God to deliver us from shame? We can
expect God to show us his way, guiding and teaching us by his truth
(vv4-5). We can expect God to forgive us, freeing us from the burden
of our past and purifying us (vv6-7).

2. Because God is good, he guides the humble into what is right (vv8-
10). Because he is gracious, he forgives even great iniquity (v11).
What a wonderful God we have.

3. What are you most in need of today: protection, guidance or forgiveness?
Do you feel you will receive it? Why or why not?
Speak to God about it and wait for God’s response. Continue this
conversation with God throughout the day.

Prayer & Journaling:
Stay with God for a little longer. Continue to converse with God and listen
to what he wants to tell me. Then write down any thought and/or prayer
in the 2012 “Spiritual Journal” book.

Chapter 24
1 The earth is the LORD’s, and everything in it, the world, and all who
live in it;

2 for he founded it on the seas and established it on thewaters.
3 Who may ascend the mountain of the LORD? Who may stand in his
holy place?
4 The one who has clean hands and a pure heart, who does not trust in an
idol or swear by a false god.
5 They will receive blessing from the LORD and vindication from God their Savior.
6 Such is the generation of those who seek him, who seek your face, God of Jacob.
7 Lift up your heads, you gates; be lifted up, you ancient doors, that the
King of glory may come in.
8 Who is this King of glory? The LORD strong and mighty, the LORD
mighty in battle.
9 Lift up your heads, you gates; lift them up, you ancient doors, that the
King of glory may come in.
10 Who is he, this King of glory? The LORD Almighty — he is the
King of glory.

Meditation
1. Imagine you are in the procession going up to the temple to worship.
As you read this psalm, what feelings and images evoked inyou?

2. Read it again slowly and try to grasp the emotions and attitudes of
fellow worshipers. What are they?

3. Compare it with your own emotions and attitudes of going to worship
each Sunday, what is the difference?

4. Who can enter God’s sanctuary (vv3-6)? How does this psalm help you
better prepared for worship this week and the weeks following?

Prayer & Journaling:
Stay with God for a little longer. Continue to converse with God and listen
to what he wants to tell me. Then write down any thought and/or prayer
in the 2012 “Spiritual Journal” book.

Chapter 23
1 The LORD is my shepherd, I lack nothing.
2 He makes me lie down in green pastures, he leads me beside quiet
waters, 3 he refreshes my soul. He guides me along the right paths for his name’s sake.
4 Even though I walk through the darkest valley, I will fear no evil,
for you are with me; your rod and your staff, they comfort me.
5 You prepare a table before me in the presence of my enemies.
You anoint my head with oil; my cup overflows.
6 Surely your goodness and love will follow me all the days of my life,
and I will dwell in the house of the LORD forever.

Meditation
1. Read aloud this familiar psalm of the Bible.

2. Now read it again in the negative (“The Lord is not my shepherd…”).
What verse is most disturbing to you? Why?

3. Now read this psalm the right way again. Any new insight? Talk
with God about your insights.

Prayer & Journaling:
Stay with God for a little longer. Continue to converse with God and listen
to what he wants to tell me. Then write down any thought and/or prayer
in the 2012 “Spiritual Journal” book.

260靈修 July. Psalms 22:1-11

5 他們哀求你,便蒙解救;他們倚靠你,就不羞愧;

Chapter 22
1 My God, my God, why have you forsaken me? Why are you so far
from saving me,so far from my cries of anguish?
2 My God, I cry out by day, but you do not answer, by night, but I find
no rest.
3 Yet you are enthroned as the Holy One; you are the one Israel praises.
4 In you our ancestors put their trust; they trusted and you delivered
them.
5 To you they cried out and were saved; in you they trusted and were not
put to shame.
6 But I am a worm and not a man, scorned by everyone, despised by the people.
7 All who see me mock me; they hurl insults, shaking their heads.
8 “He trusts in the LORD,” they say, “let the LORD rescue him. Let him
deliver him, since he delights in him.”
9 Yet you brought me out of the womb; you made me trust in you, even
at my mother’s breast.
10 From birth I was cast on you; from my mother’s womb you have been my God.
11 Do not be far from me, for trouble is near and there is no one to help.

Meditation
1. The opening words of this psalm: “My God, my God, why have
you forsaken me”, was quoted by Jesus on the cross (Matt 27:46).
This is also David’s cry to God during his many troubled times.

2. Jesus’ was forsaken on the cross so that we would be received by
God. Then God promised that “I will never leave you nor forsake
you”(Heb 13:5). God has also promised to be with us forever (Matt
28:20).

3. No matter what your circumstance is, remember: God will never
forsake you. Cry to God as David did, and wait patiently for his
response with a thankful heart.

Prayer & Journaling:
Stay with God for a little longer. Continue to converse with God and listen
to what he wants to tell me. Then write down any thought and/or prayer
in the 2012 “Spiritual Journal” book.

260靈修 July. Psalms 21:1-13

Chapter 21
1 The king rejoices in your strength, LORD. How great is his joy in the
victories you give!
2 You have granted him his heart’s desire and have not withheld the
request of his lips.
3 You came to greet him with rich blessings and placed a crown of pure
gold on his head.
4 He asked you for life, and you gave it to him—length of days, for ever
and ever.
5 Through the victories you gave, his glory is great; you have bestowed
on him splendor and majesty.
6 Surely you have granted him unending blessings and made him glad
with the joy of your presence.
7 For the king trusts in the LORD; through the unfailing love of the Most
High he will not be shaken.
8 Your hand will lay hold on all your enemies; your right hand will seize
your foes.
9 When you appear for battle, you will burn them up as in a blazing
furnace. The LORD will swallow them up in his wrath, and his fire
will consume them.
10 You will destroy their descendants from the earth, their posterity from
mankind.
11 Though they plot evil against you and devise wicked schemes, they
cannot succeed.
12 You will make them turn their backs when you aim at them with
drawn bow.
13 Be exalted in your strength, LORD; we will sing and praise your
might.

Meditation
1. David lists the blessings of faithfully following after God in this
passage: the victories won (v1), desires granted (v2), prayers answered
(v2), presence welcomed (v3), crown given (v3), life – forever
and ever (v4), glory bestowed (v5), joy in God’s presence (v6),
unfailing love (v7).

2. Remembering what God has done for us is a continual source of
joy.

3. Make a list of the blessings you’ve received from God. Go through
the list and thank God for all of the blessings one by one.

Prayer & Journaling:
Stay with God for a little longer. Continue to converse with God and listen
to what he wants to tell me. Then write down any thought and/or prayer
in the 2012 “Spiritual Journal” book.

260靈修 July. Psalms 20:1-9

Chapter 20
1 May the LORD answer you when you are in distress;
may the name of the God of Jacob protect you.
2 May he send you help from the sanctuary and grant you support from Zion.
3 May he remember all your sacrifices and accept your burnt offerings.
4 May he give you the desire of your heart and make all your plans succeed.
5 May we shout for joy over your victory and lift up our banners in the
name of our God. May the LORD grant all your requests.
6 Now this I know: The LORD gives victory to his anointed. He answers
him from his heavenly sanctuary with the victorious power of his right hand.
7 Some trust in chariots and some in horses, but we trust in the name of
the LORD our God.
8 They are brought to their knees and fall, but we rise up and stand firm.
9 LORD, give victory to the king! Answer us when we call!

Meditation
1. David’s trust in God rather than chariots (v7) is expressed in his
conviction that blessing comes from God. We who share David’s
belief will express our best wishes for others in prayers like his.

2. Think of one person that may need this prayer. Pray this psalm for
that person. You may rephrase it to suit his/her situation. You may
also write it down and send a note to let him/her know you are praying
for him/her.

Prayer & Journaling:
Stay with God for a little longer. Continue to converse with God and listen
to what he wants to tell me. Then write down any thought and/or prayer
in the 2012 “Spiritual Journal” book.
