Chapter 53
1 The fool says in his heart,“There is no God.”
They are corrupt, and their ways are vile;
there is no one who does good.
2 God looks down from heaven on all mankind
to see if there are any who understand, any who seek God.
3 Everyone has turned away, all have become corrupt;
there is no one who does good, not even one.
4 Do all these evildoers know nothing?
They devour my people as though eating bread; they never call on God.
5 But there they are, overwhelmed with dread,
where there was nothing to dread.
God scattered the bones of those who attacked you;
you put them to shame, for God despised them.
6 Oh, that salvation for Israel would come out of Zion!
When God restores his people, let Jacob rejoice and Israel be glad!

Meditation
1. Silence – Read/Listen – Meditate – Pray – Contemplate

2. What is the word or phrase that touches you today as you read and
meditate on this passage?

3. We often think: “Do good and prosper, ignore God and fail”. But
this often doesn’t work, and we wonder why good things happen to
bad people. The psalmist says not to worry about it. God will take
care of them soon enough.

4. How do you secretly want to see happen to those who do evil and
enjoy momentary success? How would their success and your
reaction to it make you feel about God, about yourself and those
people? Are you focused on success here in this world, or on storing
up treasures in heaven?

5. Talk with God and tell him your emotions right now. Then listen to
God’s response.

Prayer & Journaling:
Stay with God for a little longer. Continue to converse with God and listen
to what he wants to tell me. Then write down any thought and/or prayer
in the 2012 “Spiritual Journal” book.

Chapter 52
1 Why do you boast of evil, you mighty hero?
Why do you boast all day long,
you who are a disgrace in the eyes of God?
2 You who practice deceit, your tongue plots destruction;
it is like a sharpened razor.
3 You love evil rather than good,
falsehood rather than speaking the truth.
4 You love every harmful word,
you deceitful tongue!
5 Surely God will bring you down to everlasting ruin:
He will snatch you up and pluck you from your tent;
he will uproot you from the land of the living.
6 The righteous will see and fear;
they will laugh at you, saying,
7 “Here now is the man
who did not make God his stronghold
but trusted in his great wealth
and grew strong by destroying others!”
8 But I am like an olive tree
flourishing in the house of God;
I trust in God’s unfailing love
for ever and ever.
9 For what you have done I will always praise you
in the presence of your faithful people.
And I will hope in your name, for your name is good.

Meditation
1. Silence – Read/Listen – Meditate – Pray – Contemplate

2. What is the word or phrase that touches you today as you read and
meditate on this passage? What is your emotion as you read this
word or phrase? How is that related to your current situation? What
does God tell you to do?

3. Are you “flourishing in the house of God”? What is lacking in your
spiritual community? What helps you flourish? How can you offer
more of yourself in church, in your cell group, that you might grow
closer to God and to others as well?

Prayer & Journaling:
Stay with God for a little longer. Continue to converse with God and listen
to what he wants to tell me. Then write down any thought and/or prayer

12 求你使我仍得救恩之樂,賜我樂意的靈扶持我;

默想:

Chapter 51
1 Have mercy on me, O God, according to your unfailing love;
according to your great compassion blot out my transgressions.
2 Wash away all my iniquity and cleanse me from my sin.
3 For I know my transgressions, and my sin is always before me.
4 Against you, you only, have I sinned and done what is evil in your
sight; so you are right in your verdict and justified when you judge.
5 Surely I was sinful at birth,
sinful from the time my mother conceived me.
6 Yet you desired faithfulness even in the womb;
you taught me wisdom in that secret place.
7 Cleanse me with hyssop, and I will be clean;
wash me, and I will be whiter than snow.
8 Let me hear joy and gladness;
let the bones you have crushed rejoice.
9 Hide your face from my sins
and blot out all my iniquity.
10 Create in me a pure heart, O God,
and renew a steadfast spirit within me.
11 Do not cast me from your presence
or take your Holy Spirit from me.
12 Restore to me the joy of your salvation
and grant me a willing spirit, to sustain me.

Meditation
1. Silence – Read/Listen – Meditate – Pray – Contemplate

2. What is the word or phrase that touches you today as you read and
meditate on this passage? What is your emotion as you read this
word or phrase?

3. As Christians, we know we are sinful. Why then is it so painful to
be confronted with a specific sin? What sin have you been avoiding
talking to God about? Take it to God and experience his forgiveness.

Prayer & Journaling:
Stay with God for a little longer. Continue to converse with God and listen
to what he wants to tell me. Then write down any thought and/or prayer

Chapter 50
7 “Listen, my people, and I will speak;
I will testify against you, Israel:
I am God, your God.
8 I bring no charges against you concerning your sacrifices
or concerning your burnt offerings, which are ever before me.
9 I have no need of a bull from your stall
or of goats from your pens,
10 for every animal of the forest is mine,
and the cattle on a thousand hills.
11 I know every bird in the mountains,
and the insects in the fields are mine.
12 If I were hungry I would not tell you,
for the world is mine, and all that is in it.
13 Do I eat the flesh of bulls
or drink the blood of goats?
14 “Sacrifice thank offerings to God,
fulfill your vows to the Most High,
15 and call on me in the day of trouble;
I will deliver you, and you will honor me.”

Meditation
1. Silence – Read/Listen – Meditate – Pray – Contemplate

2. What is the word or phrase that touches you today as you read and
meditate on this passage? What is your emotion as you read this
word or phrase? How is that related to your current situation? What
does God tell you to do?

3. What would a “thank offering” to God look like for you? Today,
make your prayers an offering of praise and thanksgiving for God’s
work in your life, and try to go about today with a spirit of thankfulness
in your heart. Ask God to help you to see how he is continually
present with you in each moment, showing you love and grace even
if you are not aware.

Prayer & Journaling:
Stay with God for a little longer. Continue to converse with God and listen
to what he wants to tell me. Then write down any thought and/or prayer

Chapter 49
5 Why should I fear when evil days come,
when wicked deceivers surround me—
6 those who trust in their wealth
and boast of their great riches?
7 No one can redeem the life of another
or give to God a ransom for them—
8 the ransom for a life is costly, no payment is ever enough—
9 so that they should live on forever and not see decay.
10 For all can see that the wise die,
that the foolish and the senseless also perish,
leaving their wealth to others.
11 Their tombs will remain their houses forever,
their dwellings for endless generations,
though they had named lands after themselves.
12 People, despite their wealth, do not endure;
they are like the beasts that perish.

Meditation
1. Silence – Read/Listen – Meditate – Pray – Contemplate

2. What is the word or phrase that touches you today as you read and
meditate on this passage? What is your emotion as you read this
word or phrase? How is that related to your current situation? What
does God tell you to do?

3. This psalm shows that life is fragile. No matter how much wealth
you accumulate, you can’t take it with you. And no money can give
you immortality.

4. Read and meditate: “’Blessed are the poor in spirit’ means ‘Blessed
is the man who has realized his own utter helplessness, and who
has put his whole trust in God.’ If a man has realized his own utter
helplessness, and has put his whole trust in God, there will enter
into his life two things which are opposite sides of the same thing.
He will become completely detached from things, for he will know
that things have not got it in them to bring happiness or security;
and he will become completely attached to God, for he will know
that God alone can bring him help, and hope, and strength. The
man who is poor in spirit is the man who has realized that things
mean nothing and that God means everything.” – William Barclay

Prayer & Journaling:

Chapter 48
1 Great is the LORD, and most worthy of praise,
in the city of our God, his holy mountain.
2 Beautiful in its loftiness,
the joy of the whole earth,
like the heights of Zaphon is Mount Zion,
the city of the Great King.
3 God is in her citadels;
he has shown himself to be her fortress.
4 When the kings joined forces,
when they advanced together,
5 they saw her and were astounded;
they fled in terror.
6 Trembling seized them there,
pain like that of a woman in labor.
7 You destroyed them like ships of Tarshish
shattered by an east wind.
8 As we have heard,
so we have seen
in the city of the LORD Almighty,
in the city of our God:
God makes her secure
forever.

Meditation

2. What is the word or phrase that touches you today as you read and
meditate on this passage? What is your emotion as you read this
word or phrase? How is that related to your current situation? What
does God tell you to do?

3. As the psalmist walked the walls of ancient Jerusalem he saw more
than mighty stones. The city God had chosen represented all God’s
acts in history in loving and protecting his beloved people. How
do you see God in your life? How have you seen God guide you
through a crisis which threatened your “city” (your security or safety)?

Prayer & Journaling:
Stay with God for a little longer. Continue to converse with God and listen

Chapter 47
1 Clap your hands, all you nations;
shout to God with cries of joy.
2 For the LORD Most High is awesome,
the great King over all the earth.
3 He subdued nations under us,
peoples under our feet.
4 He chose our inheritance for us,
the pride of Jacob, whom he loved.
5 God has ascended amid shouts of joy,
the LORD amid the sounding of trumpets.
6 Sing praises to God, sing praises;
sing praises to our King, sing praises.
7 For God is the King of all the earth;
sing to him a psalm of praise.
8 God reigns over the nations;
God is seated on his holy throne.
9 The nobles of the nations assemble
as the people of the God of Abraham,
for the kings of the earth belong to God;
he is greatly exalted.

3. The psalmist sings, claps, sacrifices and invites others to share in

Chapter 46
1 God is our refuge and strength,
an ever-present help in trouble.
2 Therefore we will not fear, though the earth give way
and the mountains fall into the heart of the sea,
3 though its waters roar and foam
and the mountains quake with their surging.
4 There is a river whose streams make glad the city of God,
the holy place where the Most High dwells.
5 God is within her, she will not fall;
God will help her at break of day.
6 Nations are in uproar, kingdoms fall;
he lifts his voice, the earth melts.
7 The LORD Almighty is with us; the God of Jacob is our fortress.
8 Come and see what the LORD has done,
the desolations he has brought on the earth.
9 He makes wars cease to the ends of the earth.
He breaks the bow and shatters the spear; he burns the shields with fire.
10 He says, “Be still, and know that I am God;
I will be exalted among the nations, I will be exalted in the earth.”
11 The LORD Almighty is with us; the God of Jacob is our fortress.

Meditation
1. Silence – Read/Listen – Meditate – Pray – Contemplate

2. What is the word or phrase that touches you today as you read and
meditate on this passage?

3. When have you felt the safest in your lifetime? Why? Circle or
underline every word in this passage that deals with the concept of
safety and security. What is your emotion as you read this word or
phrase? How is that related to your current situation? What does
God tell you to do?

4. When you pray, are you able to be still and listen to God’s voice and
feel his presence? Take several minutes to allow the Holy Spirit to
free your mind of any anxious thought, concern or stress right now.
Ask God to release you from these thoughts that hold you captive
and paralyze you. At this time, ask God to fill you with the promises
from this psalm concerning the safety and security found only
in him.

Prayer & Journaling:
Stay with God for a little longer. Continue to converse with God and listen
to what he wants to tell me. Then write down any thought and/or prayer
in the 2012 “Spiritual Journal” book.

Chapter 45
1 My heart is stirred by a noble theme as I recite my verses for the king;
my tongue is the pen of a skillful writer.
2 You are the most excellent of men and your lips have been anointed
with grace, since God has blessed you forever.
3 Gird your sword on your side, you mighty one;
clothe yourself with splendor and majesty.
4 In your majesty ride forth victoriously in the cause of truth, humility
and justice; let your right hand achieve awesome deeds.
5 Let your sharp arrows pierce the hearts of the king’s enemies;
let the nations fall beneath your feet.
6 Your throne, O God, will last for ever and ever;
a scepter of justice will be the scepter of your kingdom.
7 You love righteousness and hate wickedness;
therefore God, your God, has set you above your companions
by anointing you with the oil of joy.
8 All your robes are fragrant with myrrh and aloes and cassia;
from palaces adorned with ivory
the music of the strings makes you glad.
9 Daughters of kings are among your honored women;
at your right hand is the royal bride in gold of Ophir.

Meditation
1. Silence – Read/Listen – Meditate – Pray – Contemplate

2. What is the word or phrase that touches you today as you read and
meditate on this passage? What is your emotion as you read this
word or phrase? How is that related to your current situation? What
does God tell you to do?

3. This song celebrates the king’s wedding. The joy of the wedding
feast points us to the heavenly banquet awaiting Christ and his
church. It gives us a foretaste of the joy we will know when our
Lord returns.

4. Thank God that your heart has been “stirred by a noble theme”—
the promises of the King coming for his bride. Praise him for his
majesty and the overwhelming awe that you feel because you are in
the wedding (as you are in the church).

Prayer & Journaling:
Stay with God for a little longer. Continue to converse with God and listen
to what he wants to tell me. Then write down any thought and/or prayer
in the 2012 “Spiritual Journal” book.

Chapter 44
17 All this came upon us, though we had not forgotten you;
we had not been false to your covenant.
18 Our hearts had not turned back;
our feet had not strayed from your path.
19 But you crushed us and made us a haunt for jackals;
you covered us over with deep darkness.
20 If we had forgotten the name of our God
or spread out our hands to a foreign god,
21 would not God have discovered it,
since he knows the secrets of the heart?
22 Yet for your sake we face death all day long;
we are considered as sheep to be slaughtered.
23 Awake, Lord! Why do you sleep?
Rouse yourself! Do not reject us forever.
24 Why do you hide your face
and forget our misery and oppression?
25 We are brought down to the dust;
our bodies cling to the ground.
26 Rise up and help us;
rescue us because of your unfailing love.

Meditation
1. Silence – Read/Listen – Meditate – Pray – Contemplate

2. What is the word or phrase that touches you today as you read and
meditate on this passage? What is your emotion as you read this
word or phrase?

3. The psalmist was puzzled and in agony, he begged God to “rise up
and help us”. Psalms like this one let us know that we are allowed to
feel abandoned and alone in our relationship with God and actually
say that to him, all the while hoping to return into right relationship
with him. What about you? What is one bad thing that happened to
you recently that you didn’t deserve? Did you feel God was sleeping,
just as Jesus’ disciple felt (Mk 4:35-38)? What did you do to
wake God up? How does this experience do to your faith in God’s
justice and love?

4. Ask God to help you understand his ways and give you peace when
you are waiting for his voice.

Prayer & Journaling:
Stay with God for a little longer. Continue to converse with God and listen
to what he wants to tell me. Then write down any thought and/or prayer
in the 2012 “Spiritual Journal” book.

Chapter43
1 Vindicate me, my God, and plead my cause against an unfaithful
nation.Rescue me from those who are deceitful and wicked.
2 You are God my stronghold.
Why have you rejected me?
Why must I go about mourning, oppressed by the enemy?
3 Send me your light and your faithful care,
let them lead me;
let them bring me to your holy mountain, to the place where you dwell.
4 Then I will go to the altar of God,
to God, my joy and my delight.
I will praise you with the lyre,
O God, my God.
5 Why, my soul, are you downcast?
Why so disturbed within me?
Put your hope in God,
for I will yet praise him,
my Savior and my God.
Meditation
1. Silence – Read/Listen – Meditate – Pray – Contemplate

2. What is the word or phrase that touches you today as you read and
meditate on this passage? What is your emotion as you read this
word or phrase? How is that related to your current situation? What
does God tell you to do?

3. Have you ever asked “if God is ours, why must we suffer oppression?
Why does he seem to reject us?” The psalmist did just that
here. But then he asked to “Send forth your light”(God’s light
meaning God’s word), not so much to explain his troubles but to
lead him back to God himself (v4). What we need most when hurting
is not answers, or even relief. What we need is to come into
God’s presence, there to find hope and to offer praise.

4. What are your struggles right now? Ask God to help you understand
your own feelings of depression or despair. Also to help you
focus on him and be ready to turn to him with your own depression
and/or that of a troubled friend.

Prayer & Journaling:
Stay with God for a little longer. Continue to converse with God and listen
to what he wants to tell me. Then write down any thought and/or prayer
in the 2012 “Spiritual Journal” book.

Psalms 42

1 As the deer pants for streams of water,
so my soul pants for you, my God.
2 My soul thirsts for God, for the living God.
When can I go and meet with God?
3 My tears have been my food day and night,
while people say to me all day long,
“Where is your God?”
4 These things I remember as I pour out my soul:
how I used to go to the house of God
under the protection of the Mighty One
with shouts of joy and praise among the festive throng.
5 Why, my soul, are you downcast?
Why so disturbed within me?
Put your hope in God, for I will yet praise him,
my Savior and my God.

Meditation:
1. Refer to page 1 on Lectio Divina and try to implement it as you read
through the above passage.

2. Silence – Read/Listen – Meditate – Pray – Contemplate

3. What is the word or phrase that touches you today as you read and
meditate on this passage?

4. As water from a brook sustains a deer physically, so God himself
sustains people spiritually (cf. John 4:14). The psalmist was thirsty
for God. The images of thirst and eagerness to be in God’s presence
are the essence of our life with God.

5. What is your emotion as you read this word or phrase? Do you
share the emotion expressed in the psalm? How is that related to
your current situation? What is God saying to you? What is your
response?

Prayer & Journaling:
Stay with God for a little longer. Continue to converse with God and listen
to what he wants to tell me. Then write down any thought and/or prayer
in the 2012 “Spiritual Journal” book.

Chapter 66
18 “And I, because of what they have planned and done, am about to come
and gather the people of all nations and languages, and they will come and
see my glory.19 “I will set a sign among them, and I will send some of
those who survive to the nations—to Tarshish, to the Libyans and Lydians
(famous as archers), to Tubal and Greece, and to the distant islands that
have not heard of my fame or seen my glory. They will proclaim my glory
among the nations. 20 And they will bring all your people, from all the
nations, to my holy mountain in Jerusalem as an offering to the LORD—
on horses, in chariots and wagons, and on mules and camels,” says the
LORD. “They will bring them, as the Israelites bring their grain offerings,
to the temple of the LORD in ceremonially clean vessels. 21 And I will
select some of them also to be priests and Levites,” says the LORD.22 “As
the new heavens and the new earth that I make will endure before me,”
declares theLORD, “so will your name and descendants endure. 23 From
one New Moon to another and from one Sabbath to another, all mankind
will come and bow down before me,” says theLORD. 24 “And they will
go out and look on the dead bodies of those who rebelled against me;
the worms that eat them will not die, the fire that burns them will not be
quenched, and they will be loathsome to all mankind.”

Meditation
1. Silence – Read/Listen – Meditate – Pray – Contemplate

2. This last passage ends on the hope of Israel’s future which points to
the ultimate new heavens and new earth (Rev 21:1-2). It also clarifies
the difference between a true servant of the Lord and one of his
enemies.

3. How do you feel about the new heavens and new earth? What
about the final destiny of those rebelled against God to the end?

4. The most important lessons from the book of Isaiah can be summed
up in the three reminders that (a) there is a God, (b) he is coming
back, and (c) our eternal destiny is determined by our response to
Him in this life.

5. If, by this time, you are still confused or not certain about God’s
will and your eternal destiny, speak to a pastor, a group leader or
some mature Christian and ask for them to pray for you.

Prayer & Journaling: Stay with God for a little longer. Continue to converse
with God and listen to what he wants to tell me. Then write down
any thought and/or prayer in the 2012 “Spiritual Journal” book.

Chapter 65
17 “See, I will create new heavens and a new earth. The former things will
not be remembered, nor will they come to mind.18 But be glad and rejoice
forever in what I will create, for I will create Jerusalem to be a delight and
its people a joy.19 I will rejoice over Jerusalem and take delight in my
people;the sound of weeping and of crying will be heard in it no more.
20 “Never again will there be in it an infant who lives but a few days,
or an old man who does not live out his years;the one who dies at a hundred
will be thought a mere child;the one who fails to reach a hundred will
be considered accursed.21 They will build houses and dwell in them; they
will plant vineyards and eat their fruit.22 No longer will they build houses
and others live in them, or plant and others eat.For as the days of a tree,
so will be the days of my people;my chosen ones will long enjoy the work
of their hands.23 They will not labor in vain, nor will they bear children
doomed to misfortune;for they will be a people blessed by the LORD, they
and their descendants with them.24 Before they call I will answer; while
they are still speaking I will hear.25 The wolf and the lamb will feed together,
and the lion will eat straw like the ox,and dust will be the serpent’s
food. They will neither harm nor destroy on all my holy mountain,” says
the LORD.

Meditation
1. Silence – Read/Listen – Meditate – Pray – Contemplate

2. In this joyful passage God promised a bright future for those who
love and trust the Lord. And this new creation comes into being for
us through Jesus Christ (II Cor 5:17); our new lives will be holy and
godly (2 Pet 3:11-13); and ultimately we will be in the new heaven
and earth with God for eternity (Rev 21:1-5).

3. What is the word or phrase that touches you today as you read and
meditate on this passage? Which of the New Testament application
of this heavenly vision especially strikes you now? Why?

4. Try to picture your life without any of the causes or results of grief,
sin and pain. What would that free you to be? How would this vision
of what God will bring about affect the way you deal with the
struggles you do face now?

Prayer & Journaling: Stay with God for a little longer. Continue to converse
with God and listen to what he wants to tell me. Then write down
any thought and/or prayer in the 2012 “Spiritual Journal” book.

Chapter 64
1 Oh, that you would rend the heavens and come down, that the mountains
would tremble before you!2 As when fire sets twigs ablaze and causes water
to boil, come down to make your name known to your enemies
and cause the nations to quake before you!3 For when you did awesome
things that we did not expect, you came down, and the mountains trembled
before you.4 Since ancient times no one has heard, no ear has perceived,
no eye has seen any God besides you, who acts on behalf of those who
wait for him.5 You come to the help of those who gladly do right, who remember
your ways. But when we continued to sin against them, you were
angry. How then can we be saved?6 All of us have become like one who is
unclean, and all our righteous acts are like filthy rags;we all shrivel up like
a leaf, and like the wind our sins sweep us away.7 No one calls on your
name or strives to lay hold of you;for you have hidden your face from us
and have given us over to our sins.8 Yet you, LORD, are our Father. We
are the clay, you are the potter; we are all the work of your hand.9 Do not
be angry beyond measure, LORD; do not remember our sins forever.Oh,
look on us, we pray, for we are all your people.10 Your sacred cities have
become a wasteland; even Zion is a wasteland, Jerusalem a desolation.
11 Our holy and glorious temple, where our ancestors praised you,
has been burned with fire, and all that we treasured lies in ruins.
12 After all this, LORD, will you hold yourself back? Will you keep silent
and punish us beyond measure?

Meditation
1. Silence – Read/Listen – Meditate – Pray – Contemplate

2. Repeat reading this chapter several times to allow the words sink
into your heart. Each time when you read, make it your plea, confession
and petition for mercy to God.

3. What is the word or phrase that touches you today as you read and
meditate on this passage? What is your emotion as you read this
word or phrase? How is that related to your current situation? What
does God tell you to do?

4. Based on this chapter, write a prayer to God for your church and
members of your church.

日子常保抱他們、懷搋他們。10他們竟悖逆,使主的聖靈擔憂;

Chapter 63
7 I will tell of the kindnesses of the LORD, the deeds for which he is to
be praised, according to all the LORD has done for us—yes, the many
good things he has done for Israel, according to his compassion and many
kindnesses.8 He said, “Surely they are my people, children who will be
true to me”;and so he became their Savior.9 In all their distress he too was
distressed, and the angel of his presence saved them.In his love and mercy
he redeemed them; he lifted them up and carried them all the days of old.
10 Yet they rebelled and grieved his Holy Spirit. So he turned and became
their enemy and he himself fought against them.11 Then his people recalled
the days of old, the days of Moses and hispeople—where is he who
brought them through the sea, with the shepherd of his flock?Where is
he who set his Holy Spirit among them,12 who sent his glorious arm of
power to be at Moses’ right hand, who divided the waters before them, to
gain for himself everlasting renown,13 who led them through the depths?
Like a horse in open country, they did not stumble;14 like cattle that go
down to the plain, they were given rest by the Spirit of the LORD.This is
how you guided your people to make for yourself a glorious name.
Meditation
1. Silence – Read/Listen – Meditate – Pray – Contemplate

2. Isaiah emphasizes the faithfulness of God against Israel’s unfaithfulness.
Even though people cannot attain righteousness on their
own, God makes it available to them through the work of His Servant.

3. What is the word or phrase that touches you today as you read and
meditate on this passage? What is your emotion as you read this
word or phrase? How is that related to your current situation? What
does God tell you to do?

4. What is the “exodus event” that you fondly recall in your life when
it was clear that God was working in you? How do you feel now
when times of spiritual emptiness occur? Will you recall the past to
get encouragement?

5. Talk with God about your present struggles and listen to his response.

Prayer & Journaling: Stay with God for a little longer. Continue to converse
with God and listen to what he wants to tell me. Then write down
any thought and/or prayer in the 2012 “Spiritual Journal” book.

Chapter 62
1 For Zion’s sake I will not keep silent, for Jerusalem’s sake I will not remain
quiet, till her vindication shines out like the dawn, her salvation like
a blazing torch.2 The nations will see your vindication, and all kings your
glory;you will be called by a new name that the mouth of the LORD will
bestow.3 You will be a crown of splendor in the LORD’s hand, a royal diadem
in the hand of your God.4 No longer will they call you Deserted, or
name your land Desolate. But you will be called Hephzibah, and your land
Beulah;for the LORD will take delight in you, and your land will be married.
5 As a young man marries a young woman, so will your Builder marry
you;as a bridegroom rejoices over his bride, so will your God rejoice over
you.6 I have posted watchmen on your walls, Jerusalem; they will never
be silent day or night. You who call on the LORD, give yourselves no
rest,7 and give him no rest till he establishes Jerusalem and makes her the
praise of the earth.
Meditation
1. Silence – Read/Listen – Meditate – Pray – Contemplate
2. When you read the second time, reverse all the “you” to “I and
me”.
3. What is the word or phrase that touches you today as you read and
meditate on this passage? Tell God how it makes you feel to know
that he delights in you and is happy with you.
4. Rest in the truth that God delights in you. If you wish, imagine
situations when you feel anything but special (ie, when you are hard
on yourself, when someone puts you down, or when you get back a
test, or work review that isn’t so great). See yourself responding to
the situation by saying, “Yes, this is true, but God delights in me.”

Prayer & Journaling: Stay with God for a little longer. Continue to converse
with God and listen to what he wants to tell me. Then write down
any thought and/or prayer in the 2012 “Spiritual Journal” book.

Chapter 61
1 The Spirit of the Sovereign LORD is on me,because the LORD has
anointed me to proclaim good news to the poor.He has sent me to bind up
the brokenhearted,to proclaim freedom for the captives and release from
darkness for the prisoners,2 to proclaim the year of the LORD’s favor and
the day of vengeance of our God,to comfort all who mourn,3 and provide
for those who grieve in Zion—to bestow on them a crown of beauty
instead of ashes, the oil of joy instead of mourning, and a garment of praise
instead of a spirit of despair. They will be called oaks of righteousness,
a planting of the LORD for the display of his splendor.4 They will rebuild
the ancient ruins and restore the places long devastated;they will renew
the ruined cities that have been devastated for generations.5 Strangers will
shepherd your flocks; foreigners will work your fields and vineyards.
6 And you will be called priests of the LORD, you will be named ministers
of our God.You will feed on the wealth of nations, and in their riches you
will boast.7 Instead of your shame you will receive a double portion,
and instead of disgrace you will rejoice in your inheritance.
And so you will inherit a double portion in your land, and everlasting joy
will be yours.8 “For I, the LORD, love justice; I hate robbery and wrongdoing.
In my faithfulness I will reward my people and make an everlasting
covenant with them.9 Their descendants will be known among the nations
and their offspring among the peoples. All who see them will acknowledge
that they are a people the LORD has blessed.”10 I delight greatly in the
LORD; my soul rejoices in my God.For he has clothed me with garments
of salvation and arrayed me in a robe of his righteousness,
as a bridegroom adorns his head like a priest, and as a bride adorns herself
with her jewels.11 For as the soil makes the sprout come up and a garden
causes seeds to grow,so the Sovereign LORD will make righteousness and
praise spring up before all nations.

Meditation
1. Silence – Read/Listen – Meditate – Pray – Contemplate

2. What words or phrases stand out to you? How do you feel about
being called a priest? What would it mean for you to live like a
priest this week? Do you serve with “delight in the Lord” or with
joy in results or feelings of success? What’s the difference?

3. Ask God for guidance in how you serve. As you serve someone
today, be present to the reality that you are doing this with God’s
hand, under his power. This is his work and you get to be a part of
it!

Prayer & Journaling: Stay with God for a little longer. Continue to converse
with God and listen to what he wants to tell me. Then write down
any thought and/or prayer in the 2012 “Spiritual Journal” book.

Chapter 60
1 “Arise, shine, for your light has come, and the glory of the Lord rises
upon you.2 See, darkness covers the earth and thick darkness is over the
peoples, but the Lord rises upon you and his glory appears over you.
3 Nations will come to your light, and kings to the brightness of your
dawn.4 “Lift up your eyes and look about you: All assemble and come to
you;your sons come from afar, and your daughters are carried on the hip.
5 Then you will look and be radiant, your heart will throb and swell with
joy;the wealth on the seas will be brought to you, to you the riches of the
nations will come.6 Herds of camels will cover your land, young camels
of Midian and Ephah. And all from Sheba will come, bearing gold and incense
and proclaiming the praise of the LORD.7 All Kedar’s flocks will be
gathered to you, the rams of Nebaioth will serve you;they will be accepted
as offerings on my altar, and I will adorn my glorious temple.8 “Who
are these that fly along like clouds, like doves to their nests?9 Surely the
islands look to me; in the lead are the ships of Tarshish, bringing your children
from afar, with their silver and gold,to the honor of the LORD your
God, the Holy One of Israel, for he has endowed you with splendor.

Meditation
1. Silence – Read/Listen – Meditate – Pray – Contemplate

2. What is the word or phrase that touches you today as you read and
meditate on this passage?

3. This is a glorious promise that the captives, though in exile, will
return and rebuild Jerusalem. Nations will bring gifts, Jerusalem
will be prosperous and full of glory. We, too, look forward to a time
when “the Lord will be your glory. Your sun will never set again,
and your moon will wane no more; the Lord will be your everlasting
light and your days of sorrow will end”(vv19-20).

4. What is your emotion as you read this word or phrase regarding
your glorious future? How is that related to your current situation?
What does God tell you to do?

Prayer & Journaling: Stay with God for a little longer. Continue to converse
with God and listen to what he wants to tell me. Then write down
any thought and/or prayer in the 2012 “Spiritual Journal” book.

話,心懷謊言,隨即說出。14並且公平轉而退後,公義站在遠處;

Chapter 59
9 So justice is far from us, and righteousness does not reach us.
We look for light, but all is darkness; for brightness, but we walk in deep
shadows.10 Like the blind we grope along the wall, feeling our way like
people without eyes.At midday we stumble as if it were twilight; among
the strong, we are like the dead.11 We all growl like bears; we moan
mournfully like doves. We look for justice, but find none; for deliverance,
but it is far away.12 For our offenses are many in your sight, and our
sins testify against us.Our offenses are ever with us, and we acknowledge
our iniquities:13 rebellion and treachery against the LORD, turning our
backs on our God,inciting revolt and oppression, uttering lies our hearts
have conceived.14 So justice is driven back, and righteousness stands at a
distance;truth has stumbled in the streets, honesty cannot enter.
15 Truth is nowhere to be found, and whoever shuns evil becomes a prey.

Meditation
1. Silence – Read/Listen – Meditate – Pray – Contemplate

2. As you read the passage aloud, replace we with I, and our with my.
What might God be thinking as he hears you read this?

3. What is the word or phrase that touches you today as you read and
meditate on this passage? What is your emotion as you read this
word or phrase?

4. Now, make a list of sins – big and small – that you’ve committed in
the past week. In prayer, go through your list item by item, admit to
God that you should not have participated in such wrongdoing. Do
this with a humble and repentant heart. Ask God to help you not to
focus any longer on your sin, but to be free to focus and turn toward
him.

5. As you go through today, make a point to confess your sins to God.
As you do this, be as specific as you can about your sins, acknowledging
your desperation and futility in attempting to live apart from
him.

Prayer & Journaling: Stay with God for a little longer. Continue to converse
with God and listen to what he wants to tell me. Then write down
any thought and/or prayer in the 2012 “Spiritual Journal” book.

Chapter 58
3 ‘Why have we fasted,’ they say, ‘and you have not seen it?Why have
we humbled ourselves, and you have not noticed?’“Yet on the day of your
fasting, you do as you please and exploit all your workers.4 Your fasting
ends in quarreling and strife, and in striking each other with wicked fists.
You cannot fast as you do today and expect your voice to be heard on
high.5 Is this the kind of fast I have chosen, only a day for people to
humble themselves? Is it only for bowing one’s head like a reed and for
lying in sackcloth and ashes? Is that what you call a fast, a day acceptable
to the LORD?6 “Is not this the kind of fasting I have chosen:to loose the
chains of injustice and untie the cords of the yoke,to set the oppressed free
and break every yoke?7 Is it not to share your food with the hungry and
to provide the poor wanderer with shelter—when you see the naked, to
clothe them, and not to turn away from your own flesh and blood?
8 Then your light will break forth like the dawn, and your healing will
quickly appear;then your righteousness will go before you, and the glory
of the LORD will be your rear guard.9 Then you will call, and the LORD
will answer; you will cry for help, and he will say: Here am I.“If you do
away with the yoke of oppression, with the pointing finger and malicious
talk,10 and if you spend yourselves in behalf of the hungry and satisfy the
needs of the oppressed, then your light will rise in the darkness, and your
night will become like the noonday.

Meditation
1. Silence – Read/Listen – Meditate – Pray – Contemplate

2. What is the word or phrase that touches you today as you read and
meditate on this passage? What is your emotion as you read this
word or phrase?

3. Have you ever fasted? Why or why not? What benefits did you
experience?

4. Fasting or any one of the religious activities that we’re “supposed”
to do, do us no good when we engage in it for the wrong reasons
and with the wrong attitude. In which religious activities do you
find yourself just going through the motions: attending church?
Reading the Bible? Prayer? Communion service? Fasting? How
are these activities affecting you now? What attitudes are needed
for these activities to be “acceptable to the Lord”?

Prayer & Journaling: Stay with God for a little longer. Continue to converse
with God and listen to what he wants to tell me. Then write down

Chapter 57
14 And it will be said:“Build up, build up, prepare the road! Remove the
obstacles out of the way of my people.”15 For this is what the high and
exalted One says—he who lives forever, whose name is holy:
“I live in a high and holy place, but also with the one who is contrite and
lowly in spirit, to revive the spirit of the lowly and to revive the heart of the
contrite.16 I will not accuse them forever, nor will I always be angry,
for then they would faint away because of me—the very people I have
created.17 I was enraged by their sinful greed; I punished them, and hid
my face in anger, yet they kept on in their willful ways.18 I have seen their
ways, but I will heal them;I will guide them and restore comfort to Israel’s
mourners,19 creating praise on their lips. Peace, peace, to those far and
near,”says the LORD. “And I will heal them.”20 But the wicked are like
the tossing sea, which cannot rest, whose waves cast up mire and mud.
21 “There is no peace,” says my God, “for the wicked.”

Chapter 56
1 This is what the LORD says: “Maintain justice and do what is right,
for my salvation is close at hand and my righteousness will soon be revealed.
2 Blessed is the one who does this—the person who holds it fast,
who keeps the Sabbath without desecrating it, and keeps their hands from
doing any evil.”3 Let no foreigner who is bound to the LORD say,
“The LORD will surely exclude me from his people.”And let no eunuch
complain, “I am only a dry tree.”4 For this is what the LORD says:
“To the eunuchs who keep my Sabbaths, who choose what pleases me
and hold fast to my covenant—5 to them I will give within my temple and
its walls a memorial and a name better than sons and daughters;I will give
them an everlasting name that will endure forever.6 And foreigners who
bind themselves to the LORD to minister to him,to love the name of the
LORD, and to be his servants, all who keep the Sabbath without desecrating
it and who hold fast to my covenant—7 these I will bring to my holy
mountain and give them joy in my house of prayer.Their burnt offerings
and sacrifices will be accepted on my altar;for my house will be called a
house of prayer for all nations.”

enter into the temple if they keep Sabbath and keep God’s covenant
(verses 4, 6). Have you ever felt an outsider or been excluded from
joining some group? How does this passage apply to you today?

4. “A house of prayer for all nations”(v7).

5. Meditation, confession and repentance are proper attitudes for
prayer, but so is joy, as this verse reminds us. Joy is also one of the
fruits of the spirit (Gal 5:22). Try to begin or end with a praise song
to help bring joy to your prayer/devotion time.

Chapter 55
6 Seek the LORD while he may be found; call on him while he is near.
7 Let the wicked forsake their ways and the unrighteous their thoughts.
Let them turn to the LORD, and he will have mercy on them, and to our
God, for he will freely pardon. 8 “For my thoughts are not your thoughts,
neither are your ways my ways,” declares the Lord.9 “As the heavens
are higher than the earth, so are my ways higher than your ways and my
thoughts than your thoughts.10 As the rain and the snow come down from
heaven, and do not return to it without watering the earth and making it
bud and flourish, so that it yields seed for the sower and bread for the eater,
11 so is my word that goes out from my mouth: It will not return to me
empty, but will accomplish what I desire and achieve the purpose for which
I sent it.12 You will go out in joy and be led forth in peace;the mountains
and hills will burst into song before you,and all the trees of the field will
clap their hands.13 Instead of the thornbush will grow the juniper, and
instead of briers the myrtle will grow. This will be for the Lord’s renown,
for an everlasting sign, that will endure forever.”

word or phrase?

3. In light of verses 6-7, have you been seeking the Lord or hiding
from him this week? Why? What is God speaking to you about
this?

4. Think of the most impressive range of mountains you have ever
seen, the Rockies, or some other mountains. How would you feel
as you realized that the mountains were singing for joy over what
God has done in and for you (v12)? What does that imply about
your importance to God?

Chapter 54
4 “Do not be afraid; you will not be put to shame.Do not fear disgrace;
you will not be humiliated. You will forget the shame of your youth and
remember no more the reproach of your widowhood.5 For your Maker is
your husband— the Lord Almighty is his name—the Holy One of Israel is
your Redeemer; he is called the God of all the earth.6 The Lord will call
you back as if you were a wife deserted and distressed in spirit—a wife
who married young, only to be rejected,” says your God.7 “For a brief moment
I abandoned you, but with deep compassion I will bring you back.
8 In a surge of anger I hid my face from you for a moment, but with everlasting
kindness I will have compassion on you,”says the Lord your Redeemer.
9 “To me this is like the days of Noah, when I swore that the waters
of Noah would never again cover the earth. So now I have sworn not to
be angry with you, never to rebuke you again.10 Though the mountains
be shaken and the hills be removed, yet my unfailing love for you will not
be shaken nor my covenant of peace be removed,”says the Lord, who has
compassion on you.

for a moment but was not giving up on the relationship (esp. verses
7-8), what is your emotion? If this reminds you of someone in your
life (past or present) that had made similar promises to you but reneged
later, talk with God about it.

4. Read v10 as if God’s speaking to you right now. Spend a few minutes
sitting quietly in his presence, enjoying the tranquility of that
space before you move on to the rest of your day.

Chapter 53
4 Surely he took up our pain and bore our suffering, yet we considered him
punished by God, stricken by him, and afflicted.5 But he was pierced for
our transgressions, he was crushed for our iniquities;the punishment that
brought us peace was on him, and by his wounds we are healed.6 We all,
like sheep, have gone astray, each of us has turned to our own way;and
the LORD has laid on him the iniquity of us all.7 He was oppressed and
afflicted, yet he did not open his mouth;he was led like a lamb to the
slaughter, and as a sheep before its shearers is silent,so he did not open his
mouth.8 By oppression and judgment he was taken away. Yet who of his
generation protested? For he was cut off from the land of the living; for the
transgression of my people he was punished.

Meditation
1. Read the passage aloud slowly, knowing that this “suffering servant”
passage is a prophecy about Jesus. If possible, read the whole
chapter as well.

2. Read this passage. See the servant of God, so battered and disfigured
he hardly seems human anymore. Live with him as he is
despised and rejected by men. Watch him take up our iniquities and
be pierced for our transgressions. See the blood flow as his life isEdit
crushed from him, as from a sin offering. And realize that he chose
this fate, that by his wounds we might be healed.

3. Silence – Read/Listen – Meditate – Pray – Contemplate

4. Respond to God about the words that touched you most. Talk also
to God about how Jesus can make you righteous.

5. Move through your day with this idea: Jesus “died without a thought
for his own welfare”. If he died that way, how much more must he
have lived that way? Try living that selflessly a few minutes at a
time.

Prayer & Journaling: Stay with God for a little longer. Continue to converse
with God and listen to what he wants to tell me. Then write down
any thought and/or prayer in the 2012 “Spiritual Journal” book.

Chapter 52
7 How beautiful on the mountains are the feet of those who bring good
news, who proclaim peace, who bring good tidings, who proclaim
salvation, who say to Zion, “Your God reigns!”8 Listen! Your watchmen
lift up their voices; together they shout for joy. When the Lord returns to
Zion, they will see it with their own eyes.9 Burst into songs of joy together,
you ruins of Jerusalem, for the Lord has comforted his people, he has
redeemed Jerusalem.10 The Lord will lay bare his holy arm in the sight
of all the nations, and all the ends of the earth will see the salvation of our
God.11 Depart, depart, go out from there! Touch no unclean thing!
Come out from it and be pure, you who carry the articles of the Lord’s
house.12 But you will not leave in haste or go in flight;
for the Lord will go before you, the God of Israel will be your rear guard.

3. This passage lively describes the joyful news of victory that Jehovah
God has won over Babylon. God’s people “burst into songs
of joy together,… for the Lord has comforted his people, he has
redeemed Jerusalem”(v9).

4. When have you tasted real joy and peace in witnessing? How could
you experience more of the “good tiding” of the gospel this week?
Pray and ask God to bring a few faces of friends or family members
that don’t believe in Jesus and that you can begin praying for
daily.

draws near speedily, my salvation is on the way,and my arm will bring
justice to the nations. The islands will look to me and wait in hope for my
arm.6 Lift up your eyes to the heavens, look at the earth beneath;the heavens
will vanish like smoke, the earth will wear out like a garment and its
inhabitants die like flies. But my salvation will last forever, my righteousness
will never fail.7 “Hear me, you who know what is right, you people
who have taken my instruction to heart:Do not fear the reproach of mere
mortals or be terrified by their insults.8 For the moth will eat them up like

arm of the LORD, clothe yourself with strength!Awake, as in days gone
by, as in generations of old.Was it not you who cut Rahab to pieces, who
pierced that monster through?10 Was it not you who dried up the sea,
the waters of the great deep, who made a road in the depths of the sea so
that the redeemed might cross over?11 Those the LORD has rescued will
return. They will enter Zion with singing; everlasting joy will crown their
heads.Gladness and joy will overtake them, and sorrow and sighing will

Chapter 50
4 The Sovereign Lord has given me a well-instructed tongue,to know the
word that sustains the weary. He wakens me morning by morning, wakens
my ear to listen like one being instructed.5 The Sovereign Lord has opened
my ears;I have not been rebellious, I have not turned away.6 I offered my
back to those who beat me,my cheeks to those who pulled out my beard;
I did not hide my face from mocking and spitting.7 Because the Sovereign
Lord helps me, I will not be disgraced. Therefore have I set my face like
flint, and I know I will not be put to shame.8 He who vindicates me is near.
Who then will bring charges against me? Let us face each other!Who is
my accuser? Let him confront me!9 It is the Sovereign Lord who helps
me. Who will condemn me?They will all wear out like a garment; the
